STATE OF THE CITY - GREAT TURNOUT - GREAT INFORMATION SHARED!
From learning about the construction projects happening in the City and schools to hearing about our Buffalo Police Department and Wright County Sheriff's updating on the safety/security of our City and County - there was much positivity in the room!
Mayor Teri Lachermeier welcomed us and David Kelly and Taylor Gronau from City Hall spoke of the completion of the Hwy 25 project, on some housing developments coming in, on the purchase of land on west Hwy 55 for a future industrial park and more. Buffalo is growing, which is good to see!
Did you know that the Buffalo PD has 18 licensed officers that respond to over 1300 calls a month? Chief Deputy Matt Treichler shared that there was no officer involved shootings from 2008-2022 but we have had 4 in the last 3 years. He also shared that the co-responder program is working great - where a social worker rides along on calls that may involve mental health. There is a Frontline Outreach Program where we, as citizens, can donate gas or grocery gift cards or cash so that officers don't have to give out of pocket when they see a need. They may not change a long-term circumstance but can change the bad moment at the time. Both departments spoke of how blessed they are to have a community that supports them!
Brian Koslofsky spoke about how Wright Tech is in need of funding to help do some facility improvements. He is working, and has asked for our support, in getting in this years' Omnibus Bonding Bill in this legislative session. Our Wright Tech is the last vocational cooperative in the state and has served over 31,000 students in the last 50 years! Another gem right here in our community!
Our BHM School District serves 33,000 residences in 157 square miles with 5200 students. The budget is based on enrollment and enrollment is going down. There will be some staffing cuts/rearranging going into the next school year. This is consistent several other districts across the state. We have almost 100 students attending our Academic Luncheon who have earned a 3.67 GPA or higher. Our schools are something to be proud of!
Thank you again to our sponsors Bankwest, Culver's, Old National Bank and Thomes Insurance! Thank you to Bison Creek for a great meal! Thank you for coming - always great to see so many members in one room!
