A LETTER FROM LD2 PC

HAZEL CHANDLER

Reflections on mortality in the middle of a Phoenix heat wave.

July will be remembered as the hottest month on record in Phoenix as well as across much of the world.

I ask you, what do we value?

What do we want our personal and collective legacy to be?

Do we want to be remembered as the generation that destroyed life on earth - the last generation to be able to enjoy the beauty and abundance that nature has to offer?

This is the magnitude of the decisions we are making today. The clock is ticking.

Everywhere we look we see the impacts of the previous decisions that have allowed the atmospheric carbon dioxide levels to reach 424 parts per million.

'We are absolutely at levels unseen in human civilization,' said a University of Oklahoma meteorology professor Jason Furtado.

'Humans are running a massive experiment on the Earth climate system via burning carbon, and the results are turning out not great for a lot of people on this planet.'

As a great-grandmom, I am very concerned about what life on earth will look like for our children and grandchildren.

Will humanity survive? What about plants, animals, insects, birds, and amphibians?

We must act now while we still have time.

Hazel Chandler, Phoenix

CANVASS SUCCESS & TOUR OF THE MCTEC

Thank you to everyone who attended last week's canvass. The team knocked on 300 doors and talked to 38 people. Incredible work, and congratulations to Team Rep. Schwiebert and Save Our Schools Arizona! Everyone was safe, walked in pairs, and stayed hydrated.

Have you ever wanted to learn more about how our elections work here in Maricopa County? Rep. Schwiebert would like to gauge your interest in a private tour of the elections warehouse, the Maricopa County Tabulation and Election Center (MCTEC), where we will learn together about the life of a ballot and how each of the election processes work.

JOIN THE BOOK CLUB

Wednesday, August 23 6:30 - 8pm

Please join LD4 for another fabulous book club discussion led by two of our NVD (LD2/LD4) interns!

The book is Monday's Not Coming by Tiffany Jackson. This book has been "challenged in Virginia and Texas" and removed from some school libraries in Utah.

The interns chose this book. Banned books and the issues in this novel are very close to home for high school students.

The book is available at Changing Hands (Camelback location).

DONATE TO LD2 AND WIN A GIFT CARD!

If you’re reading this newsletter, you know the importance of voting in all elections and understand the process. However, not all of our LD2 neighbors do, so one of the uses of our funds is for the purpose of creating literature and mailers to help educate the voters of LD2 about the importance of elections – especially down ballot local races. Consider becoming a recurring donor to LD2 and you will be automatically entered to win a gift card for your recurring donation!

Anyone can donate - you don’t have to live in LD2.

How about $20.23 for LD2 in 2023?
