A CALL TO ACTION

At the February 23rd Washington Elementary School District governing board meeting, the board voted unanimously to reject the renewal Agreement for Student Teacher Placement with the Arizona Christian University (ACU). The decision to reject the contract renewal was informed by the discriminatory practices of the ACU, to include a statement of faith with specific anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric, and a requirement to abide by such practices.

Now the WESD board is under attack for this decision, and most specifically, Tamillia Valenzuela. This is important time to come together as a team and show support.

The call to action is to attend the board meeting, speak if you can, supporting the unanimous decision made by the board.

The highest-priority committee hearing for the week is the House Ways and Means Committee, which will be on Wednesday at 9 AM.

Opportunity Arizona will be speaking against SCR 1035 and SB 1577, which both will lower income taxes in a way that disproportionately benefits the wealthy if the state has a budget surplus. They will also be speaking against SB 1276, which would create a separate tax loophole for corporations.

DONATE TO LD2 AND WIN A GIFT CARD!

If you’re reading this newsletter, you know the importance of voting in all elections and understand the process. However, not all of our LD2 neighbors do, so one of the uses of our funds is for the purpose of creating literature and mailers to help educate the voters of LD2 about the importance of elections – especially down ballot local races. Consider becoming a recurring donor to LD2 and you will be automatically entered to win a gift card for your recurring donation!

Anyone can donate - you don’t have to live in LD2.
