Thanks to our LD2 Candidates and LD2 Campaign team for everything you did for our district. The incredible amount of hours everyone spent talking with all of the voters in LD2 regardless of political affiliation is unmatched. All of you sacrificed so much to move the needle and let’s not forget you exceeded the voter turnout in LD2 as compared to the average state turnout – this doesn’t go unnoticed. Special shout-out to: Rep Judy Schwiebert, Jeanne Casteen & Moxie, Mary & Jeff Fortney, along with canvassing/phone banking rockstars including Rivko Knox, Scott Sawottke, Sharon Haynes, & Meg Patel.

Thanks to our LD2 Executive Board who gave me a chance to throw out different ideas during this short cycle in order to gain a presence in the community. We essentially tried to deliver two year’s worth of activities in nine months & coalesce three LD’s. You are a great sounding board and reality checker when we were biting off more than we could chew.

Meg Patel, our 1st VC always presented fresh ideas to pursue, has an incredible amount of energy raising a precocious future Democrat, maintaining a FT job, and being a very active PC in her community.

Rivko Knox, our Secretary, is a legend in our state and continues to amaze me with her energy, capturing all of the meeting minutes, promoting LD2, while also putting in time for Democratic causes.

Truly Bone, our Treasurer, while working FT, ensured we complied with all of the changing rules to campaign finance laws when we embarked on our single shot postcards; she knows how much I value her contributions.

Chris Gehlker, our Dems Give Back VC, looked for various ways we could give back to our LD2 community while working a FT job.

Eric Shelley, our Data Analysis & PC Education VC, kept up with all of the requests for data lists & analysis along with educating some of our new PCs while also working FT.

Last but certainly not least, Whit Johnson, our Digital Resources VC, reformatted and distributed our weekly newsletter within a very short turnaround, managed our monthly hybrid zoom meetings, and found ways to make our website pop with the Voter Guide. I am so very thankful for this board!

Enjoy the Thanksgiving Holidays as we will take a one week break.

LET'S HAVE AN LD2 PARTY!

Did someone say, LD2 Holiday Party? YES! We have so much to celebrate in LD2, so the timing is perfect. Hosted by Sheena PC Ron Owen & his husband Peter Rosenberg, who have graciously opened up their home for the festivities. Bring a friend and invite them to the party – bonus points if they are Democrats and even more bonus points if they live in LD2 😊.

December 9th from 5:00pm to 9:00pm

Please bring a dessert to share at the party. Try your hand at our inaugural LD2 Trivia Contest. We will be inviting several electeds so you never know who will appear.

To ensure we have enough food at this event and to get the address, please RSVP to Diane Feldman Schoen at 602-616-8675 by Dec 7th.

DONATE YOUR TIME AND MONEY HERE

During this Thanksgiving holiday season, consider donating your time, talents, and/or money to organizations.

  • We heard during the November LD meeting that Paradise Valley Community Food Bank is in need of 10-12 pound frozen turkey donations during their Thanksgiving turkey drive until Wed Nov 23rd. For more information, visit: www.pvcommunityfoodbank.org Perhaps you can also lend them a hand?

  • Jeanne Casteen made us aware of an opportunity to donate to an organization that works to ensure a separate of church and state in AZ. Visit the Secular Coalition for AZ at www.secularaz.org

  • Become a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for foster children. A friend of mine is a CASA volunteer who has found this work very rewarding. Visit www.azcourts.gov/CASA

BIENNIAL REORGANIATION

The LD2 Biennial Elections will take place on Zoom on Nov 30th at 6:30pm. This closed meeting is open to LD2 elected PCs only. Make sure you sign up to attend this meeting before November 30th as MCDP has to verify if you are a PC and will then send you the link. Board positions and their responsibilities have been sent to all PCs by our Secretary. Please contact Rivko if you need another copy.

LOCAL LD2 BAKERIES

For those of you who attended our Nov LD2 meeting, you were treated to desserts from some of our local bakeries in LD2 & LD4.

  • Balkan Bakery – 12th St & Bell Rd - Figaro
  • Triple Delight Bakery – 14848 N Cave Creek Road – lots of different types
  • Yusef’s – 15328 N Cave Creek Road – Baklava (pistachio & walnut)
  • Chompies – 32nd St & Cactus – Strawberry bowties

P.S. I have no idea as to their political affiliation or preference.

NEW LD2 BUSINESS CARDS & NAME BADGES

We’ve received inquiries from some of our active volunteers who are not PCs but want to take advantage of this opportunity. By all means, please feel free to purchase these items and wear/use them proudly! We validate the information before sending them to the printer. You can order LD2 business cards at $30/box of 100 cards & name badges at $15/badge.

Please use this link to submit and pay for your order: http://azld2dems.org/order/

The turnaround is pretty quick.

If you have any issues with ordering them, please contact Whit at whit@azld2dems.org

DONATE TO LD2 AND WIN A GIFT CARD!

If you’re reading this newsletter, you know the importance of voting in all elections and understand the process. However, not all of our LD2 neighbors do, so one of the uses of our funds is for the purpose of creating literature and mailers to help educate the voters of LD2 about the importance of elections – especially down ballot local races. Consider becoming a recurring donor to LD2 and you will be automatically entered to win a gift card for your recurring donation!

Anyone can donate - you don’t have to live in LD2.

How about $20.23 for LD2 in 2023?

If you have any questions, please contact LD2 Treasurer Truly Bone at Treasurer@azld2dems.org
