WHAT CAN YOU DO TO GET DEMS ELECTED?

Only days before ballots drop and we have so much to do. This midterm election is probably the most important one for AZ in over 50 years. Don’t get me started about the state government’s control to women’s bodies and then there is the threat to our democracy and taking away mail-in ballots and then…. The list goes on. You know it’s bad when even Liz Cheney is urging Arizonans to back Democrats in the Governor and Secretary of State races.

The time period from when early voting begins and Election Day is called “Get Out The Vote” (GOTV). Historically, Democrats don’t always turn out to vote which is why we need to give them some encouragement such as making it easier for them to vote. I’m a big proponent of making sure everyone has the necessary information to vote. We need to make it easier to vote!

Hope you’ve been saving up your energy for these last 35 days and have replenished your supply of caffeine because we’re going to need all hands on-deck! So, what can you do to help us? Of course, you can knock on your LD2 neighbor’s doors (also called canvassing) to ensure our Democrat voters who receive their ballot in the mail also cast their ballot by mail or go to the polls (there are several which open early) to drop them off. What if you can’t do the walking, but you’re willing to make phone calls (also called phone banking)? What if you want to help us put up signs in the major thoroughfares in LD2 this Saturday (see next section)?

Visit: MOBILIZE LD2 for a comprehensive list of volunteer opportunities and events.

Don’t make excuses.

Whatever you do, just DO SOMETHING!

SUBS, STREETS, & SIGNS!

Last Call: Come join us on Oct 8th from 4-7PM at Moon Valley Park (502 W Coral Gables Dr) for LD2’s Subs, Streets, and Signs event. Rather than have our candidate yard signs collect dust at the LD2 sign depots, we’ve got a fun activity planned for all of the remaining yard signs. Help us “plant” all of these yard signs in high traffic areas on the LD2 roadways so that we can “sprout” votes for our Democratic candidates.

We will meet at Moon Valley Park where we will nourish you with subs, provide you with instructions and guidance, and a list of where to place the signs before setting off in pairs.  Some tips: wear reflective / bright clothing, bring a mallet and screwdriver or a drill (we live in Phoenix – the ground is pretty hard) to facilitate getting the signs installed. Take pictures. Have fun.

LD2 SIGN DEPOTS

LAST CALL! Our three LD2 Sign Depots are OPEN until Oct 7th! You can pick-up yard signs for some of your favorite Democratic candidates including Adrian Fontes, Kris Mayes, Julie Gunnigle, Jevin Hodge, Judy Schwiebert, Jeanne Casteen, and more. As we heard during the Sept LD2 meeting, any signs not picked up will be used for our Subs, Streets, and Signs event on Oct 8th.

  • East section of LD2: Janet Wilson - 602-432-7796
  • West side of LD2: Rivko Knox – 602-942-6436
  • North side of LD2: Meg Patel – 602-741-2373

Yard signs are a very effective way to show your neighbors who you support. Sometimes it’s a great conversation starter. Do your part to help our candidates!

HELPING OUR LD2 CANDIDATES CORNER

Get ready to gear up for Get Out The Vote (GOTV) by brushing up on your canvassing skills. Each of the LD2 Organizers are available in the evening Monday to Friday from 4-7pm to work with you individually to erase any trepidation you may have. To sign-up, visit the mobilize link found below.

Special highlight of upcoming events:

  • 10/08 – Canvass with our next Secretary of State Adrian Fontes & our LD2 candidates. Meet at Paseo Highlands Park at 9:30am - noon, talk with persuadable voters in the surrounding precincts

HUNGER ISN'T OVER

Some folks seem to think that with official announcements that the pandemic is over we can stop caring about hunger in our community. Nothing could be further from the truth, Inflation has pushed more people into food insecurity.

The good news is that the collection at our last meeting was the biggest ever. Some of the weight was a large bag of dog food but the staff at PV Community Food Bank was very enthusiastic because they had run out of dog food and didn’t know what they were going to do the next day.

LD2 VOTER GUIDE

Ballots drop in just a few days. Visit our Election Guide on our website to help you complete your ballot: LD2 Website. This website is tailored specifically for registered Democratic and Other like-minded voters in Legislative District 2.

Our Election Guide webpage currently includes the following:

  • Links to very useful election tools from the Maricopa County Recorder's office and others.
  • A gallery of most every candidate you’ll see on your LD2 ballot (both Democrats and down ballot, like-mind, people running for other positions including the incredibly important school boards). This section includes links to the candidate’s websites and social media accounts. Don’t forget to donate to them or volunteer for them soon!
  • A current election calendar showing the date ballots will be mailed, the last day to return them, and more.

Please send this link azld2dems.org to all your LD2 friends and neighbors and ask them to do the same.

Unite with women across the country for a national weekend of action to send a message: We demand our rights! We will not sit back and accept the attacks on our families, future, and our freedom.

Join us for a community rally and march with tabled organizations, sign holding, and opportunities for resources & networking!

DONATE TO LD2 AND WIN A GIFT CARD!

If you’re reading this newsletter, you know the importance of voting in all elections and understand the process.
