The Central AZ Water Conservation District (CAWCD) seeks to ensure our state’s water supply is protected and resilient and is delivered to all of us in the Central and Southern AZ region. There are three individuals who are seeking election/re-election to another six-year term to the CAWCD and need our help to ensure their names are on the ballot: incumbents Ben Graff and Alexandra Arboleda along with Terry Goddard endorsed candidate: Ylenia Aguilar. Ben and Alexandra are both lawyers specializing in land use and water/natural resources law and Ylenia is a school board member with the Osborn School District. The future of water in AZ is an especially important topic in our desert state.

School Boards & Community Colleges: At our April meeting, we heard from Kelli Butler who is running for our Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) regarding the importance of our Community College system and their lack of funding from the state. Kelli understands the value of education and will be a great advocate for the students of this institution. We also heard from LD2 PC Craig Beckman who will be running for the Deer Valley Unified School Board.

Hard to believe these important elected positions: CAWCD Board and MCCCD / local school boards are at the bottom of the ballot. All of these folks need to use paper ballots to obtain their signatures. Let’s make sure we help these candidates get on the ballot by using your local contacts to get signatures for them. We anticipate having everyone’s petitions available at our May 18th on-site meeting, but don’t wait until then to help them out!

HELPING OUR LD2 CANDIDATES

Here’s a new ask – do you have a pick-up truck? Can you help bring folding chairs to various events for our LD2 candidates such as house parties and candidate in the park events?

If so, please contact Mary Fortney, LD2 Campaign Manager, at: mfortney@azdem.org or 602-376-7453 for more details

What are the other ways you can help? Can you make phone calls? Can you help knock on neighborhood doors? Can you drive a door knocker which is especially important in the summer? Can you host a house party with your neighbors? These are just some of the ways you can help our LD2 Candidates get their message out to our voters. This is especially important in the regions of our district where we don’t have any PC representation which we learned about our April meeting.

Please contact our LD2 Campaign Organizer, Taylor Nelson who will be able to find just the right opportunity where you can get involved; she can be reached at 515-822-4022 or tnelson@azdem.org
