Our next in-person hybrid meeting will be this Wednesday, July 20th at 6:30pm at Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) Conference Center (parking lot at: 32nd St and Grovers). We will meet our fabulous Democratic candidates for Congressional District 1: Adam Metzendorf and Jevin Hodge. Each candidate will share with us what’s going on with their campaign, how you can get involved, and answer your questions. We’ll get a legislative update from our Representative Judy Schwiebert who is running for re-election and AZ Senate candidate Jeanne Casteen. We anticipate having someone from Save Our Schools to explain the new petition pertaining to blocking HB2853.

Please make sure to bring your non-perishable food & pet food to the meeting where we are continuing our food drive collections to the PV Food Bank. We will be doing this at all of our monthly meetings because at LD2 we care about all of our neighbors. Attend early to get your own petition along with signing the petitions for Repealing HB2853, meet your neighbors, talk with candidates, and grab a cookie (but please bring your own non-alcoholic drink). Meeting starts promptly at 6:30pm.

CARDS AND NAME TAGS!

We are excited to provide the opportunity to pre-order LD2 business cards for our PCs at $30/box of 100 cards & name badges at $15/badge using J & R Printing (a Union Printer in Phoenix). While we are working out the payment and processing kinks for ordering these materials from our website, enjoy looking at the cards and badges below. We anticipate providing all of our PCs with the ordering information in time for the monthly meeting.

SIGN THE PETITION!

Remember when Prop 305 was overwhelmingly rejected by the voters in 2018? Unfortunately, the AZ Legislature voted to effectively dismantle public education by passing HB2853 Universal ESA Voucher Expansion. We’ve proven in the past how those of us who believe in properly funding public education can mobilize and do what needs to be done. To that end, we must collect 118,823 valid signatures before September 24, 2022 to stop universal ESA voucher expansion from going into effect. This referendum will then go on the Nov 2024 ballot where AZ voters can reject it once and for all.

At the July LD meeting, we will be bringing this petition for PCs to check out their own petition so that they can collect signatures from their neighbors.

HELPING OUT WITH OUR ELECTIONS

Want to get more involved in the elections process during this election cycle? There are many ways to do so, and we need Dems to fill these roles! 

Maricopa County is in the process of hiring for 2300 temporary positions, from poll workers on election day, to assisting with early voting, to ballot processing after election day, and much more! It's a great way to better understand our voting system, and get paid. APPLY HERE 

MCDP is looking for election observers for the primary and general elections. A new high school program has started, too. Contact our secretary, Rivko Knox, if you are interested.

PRO-CHOICE ASSISTANCE

If you are distraught by what’s going on in AZ with respect to a woman’s right to choose, then contact www.abortionfundofaz.org if you want to help them out. This group provides direct assistance to people seeking abortion care in AZ. They view the right to abortion as a fundamental human right, essential for equality, health, and dignity.

LD2 CLUB CORNER

Human interaction is good for the mind and the soul. I’d like to see us expand our reach by providing different options to engage not only our PCs but the general community with the formation of selected types of LD2 Dems clubs. One particular club which comes to mind is a Book Club. If you are interested in being a member of this club and/or have a recommendation for a different club, please contact Chair, Janet Wilson at chair@azld2dems.org.The only bad ideas are ones which you hold onto yourself and don’t share.
