PRINCIPAL'S DESK

It’s Homecoming Week for Lewis & Clark High School! We’re excited to welcome you to ONE Spokane Stadium for our homecoming football game against Southridge, this Friday at 7:30pm.

Multiple events at the Arena, Podium, and Stadium that night mean parking in lots around the stadium may be limited.

Because of this, our friends at Rock Pointe Office Complex have graciously offered free parking to vehicles displaying the Spokane Public Schools free parking pass on the dashboard.

Please see the attached map for directions to Rock Pointe, which is just a few minutes’ walk from the stadium. North Central High School – located about 5 blocks due north of the stadium – has free parking for SPS events as well. Lots A, B and D adjacent to the stadium also have free parking (with pass displayed) if space is available.

Remember to print and display your free parking pass, which is valid an hour before and after SPS events. The pass is also available at the stadium’s Tickets West window, should you forget. Visit onespokanestadium.com/know-before-you-go for information on the stadium’s clear bag policy, cashless concessions, public transit options, and more.

Thank you for coming out to support our students, and Go Tigers!

LC Principal Ivan Corley

Healthy Youth Survey

On Monday, October 16, 202310th and 12th grade students will be taking the Washington State Healthy Youth Survey 2023. The survey will be given to students in Grades 6, 8, 10 and 12 in large districts and students in Grades 6 through 12 in small school districts.

The Healthy Youth Survey includes questions related to physical activity and diet, unintentional and intentional injury, substance use, sexual behaviors, abuse, risk and protective factors, and access to school-based services. Survey results are used by schools, communities, and state agencies to plan programs to support our youth and reduce their risks.

Participation in the survey is voluntary and the students’ answers are anonymous. There are no codes or information used to match a survey to a student. If you choose to not have your student take the survey, please email Janet Lane your student’s first and last name (JanetL@spokaneschools.org) by Oct. 12, 2023.

Please read the Parent and Student Information Letter for more information about the Healthy Youth Survey. This information can be found on the website and/or in the public office.

Bite 2 Go

Hey Tigs! Bite2Go is an anonymous program our school offers to students who need a little extra food over the weekend. Our 2023-2024 Bite2Go program has started back up again and here are two ways you can sign up.

Scan the QR code on posters in the hallways or click here

Make sure to include the room number and teacher of where you would like the food dropped off when filling out the form! Bags will be delivered to your chosen location on Thursdays!

AP Exam Ordering Process

We are changing the ordering process for AP Exams this year. In prior years, we combined the ordering process on the AP site with the payment process in the Business Office. This year, we will first focus on getting students registered and determining which exams they want to take.

Once that process is completed, we'll generate an invoice for each student that will be emailed to both students and parents. You can then pay in the Business Office or online (with details coming soon). Each AP Exam is $98 (AP Seminar exam is $146). For students who qualify for free/reduced lunch, we will have paperwork for the state subsidy to pay for exams. Thank you for your patience with this new process.

The Business Office will work out payment plans if you cannot pay the entire balance when the invoice is generated.

Any exam that is ordered but canceled (or unused in May) after the deadline will have a $40 non-refundable fee (this is a mandatory College Board fee), so we will only be able to refund $58 of the $98 fee.

Stay tuned for more info. Email Theresa Meyer if you have any questions.

Isaac's Bookshelf Books & Blood Drive

You are invited to the 3rd Annual “Isaac’s Books and Blood Drive” at Auntie’s Bookstore on October 21. Sign up and come donate blood on location at Auntie’s!

In addition to the blood drive, the traveling Isaac’s Bookshelf will be in the store to fill with books! It is gorgeous and the theme is Under the Sea. It was painted by local artist and author, Mary Pat Kanaley.

As you know, there is a critically low blood supply right now. Please help us support our community and local blood bank to help end the shortage.

Isaac's Bookshelf is run by Mrs. Brincken and her family in honor of her son Isaac. isaacsbookshelf.org

LC Yearbook Senior Photos & Senior Ads

LC Senior Parents, please take a moment to review the attached documents for information on Senior Photos and Senior Ads for the 2023-2024 LC yearbook. Booking your Senior Photos early is a good idea to ensure you are able to meet the October 31 deadline. Those who are not able to book Senior Photos can schedule to get a free photo taken by a yearbook photographer in the fall by emailing lcyearbook@spokaneschools.org.

PSAT Day for Juniors

On Wednesday, October 25, all Juniors will be taking the PSAT online (students will need to bring their computer fully charged that day). All other grades will follow a regular Wednesday bell schedule, although some classes on the 3rd floor will take place in rooms different from where they normally are (the affected teachers will inform student about the changes the days before the test).

On October 12, we will be doing a technology update and test of the PSAT app (Bluebook) in 11th grade social studies classes. Students will need to bring their laptop on October 12 and every day until the exam because the app will be doing updates up until test day.

Juniors will report to their assigned room by 7:50am. We are encouraging Juniors to get a good night’s sleep the night before, eat a good breakfast the day of, and remember to bring pencils, water, a snack, and a calculator if you have one to bring (we have a limited supply). Room assignments and movements will be clearly posted and communicated to students at school. Juniors will attend Lunch, 5th, and 6th period after the test.

Running Start Juniors are all pre-registered to take the PSAT, if it works with your college schedule (there is no alternate time/day for this exam). NewTech Juniors will also stay at LC and take the PSAT.

Why the PSAT/NMSQT Is Important? When you take the PSAT/NMSQT, you open the door to more benefits than you might think:

It connects students to more than $300 million in scholarships, including the National Merit Scholarship Program.

It's excellent practice for the SAT. Both tests measure the same knowledge and skills and ask the same types of questions, so PSAT/NMSQT takers will know what to expect on the SAT.

It's the first step to a free, personalized SAT study plan. Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy uses your PSAT/NMSQT score to create a customized SAT study plan with sample questions that focus on areas where they need help.

You will receive detailed feedback on your score to identify areas of strength and growth.

In Spokane Public Schools, your PSAT score may be used to help recover English 9/10 and Algebra/Geometry credits you may be deficient in earning.

Class of 2025

If you are a Junior (member of the Class of 2025), come join us for a class meeting on Monday, October 9 at 8:30am in room 135 (Mr. Denton's room) to start planning for senior year!
