Family Survey - We Value Your Input!

Dear LC Families,

As the school year nears its end, we want to know your thoughts, opinions and perspectives as we continually assess our work as a district. Please take a moment to complete our annual Family Survey, linked at the end of this message.

This important survey allows SPS to understand your students’ experiences at our schools or programs. We encourage you to complete the survey for each school-aged student in your household. The survey includes a link at the end to loop back and complete it again.

Please know that while we do ask for student names and ID numbers, this information is kept confidential and only used for demographic purposes.

We appreciate your feedback.

Take the survey.

Thank you.

Ivan Corley

Growth

by Isabella Newell

We rise from the soil,

as little sprouts, budding leaves

reaching towards the sun.

Going through stages

of rain and snow, sun and clouds.

Learning as we grow.

As we reach the end

and nearing the canopy,

we reflect on time.

Experiences

shaped us into our true selves.

Ready for what’s next.

HAGL

by Lilia Nicholson

Lately I’ve been looking at old photos

Each year a chapter with new memories

The book captures me from four years ago

Freshman me was scared and full of worries

Not knowing who I was or where to start

Afraid of change and online mysteries

Distance created sickness of the heart

That year I hid myself behind a mask

First high school yearbook photo, six feet apart

As a sophomore I thought, this is my chance

Taking little risks and trying new things

But that year wasn’t much different from last

I tried new clothes and thought I was changing

Yet looking back, I think I look the same

Second photo, different shirt, same me

Junior year had change, I looked for my name

The photo looks like who I wanted to be

I don’t recognize myself on the page

Everyone says each picture looks like me

But I see a different person in her

perception changed with yearbook photo three

Now I’m here, year four, and I’m a senior

Everyone looks different, its going too fast

Slow down, look around, we’re getting older

Looking at us all, which time will be the last?

Senior photos capture the best of you

Sign my yearbook please, I’ll remember this class

You write, “Have a great life,” this year is through

I’ll look through my yearbook to remember

Who I was, who I am, and all of you.

Oh, the Places

by Evelyn Bowles

I’m from my mother, who was

younger than I am now

When she became a mom.

I’m from a cheap apartment

Made of Lego bricks and puzzle pieces.

I’m from my grandmother’s colorful paintings

And a hat we both wore a generation apart.

I’m from sidewalk chalk and princess dresses.

From toast and Disney movies when I was sick.

I’m from my mother’s dyed hair,

Her dark makeup and tattoos.

I’m from loud music and stuffed animals

And a handmade dollhouse I practically lived in.

I’m from anger and illness,

Doctor after doctor.

I’m from genetic disadvantages,

Body and mind.

I’m from the hospital room

My brother was born in

As I set down my Fun Dip

to hold him for the first time.

From pictures of peace signs and cheesy smiles,

The memories of a young family--

That’s where I’m from.

I know these things

For I live them all at once.

The one thing I don’t know is

Where I’m going.

But still, I’ll walk down

The rainbow path

To find the places I’ll go.

Graduation Expectations

Graduation is a time of celebration and excitement not only for you but for your family and friends.

We know that in that excitement you might want to express yourself in a unique way but understand that expectations on behavior are strictly enforced and non-compliance will result in your high school diploma being held pending an in-person meeting with you, your parent/guardians, Principal Corley, and Superintendent Dr. Adam Swinyard.

COLLEGE & CAREER

FAFSA/WASFA Is Open

Here's why completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) is essential:

🌟 Funding Access:

  • FAFSA is open, providing access to federal aid, including grants, work-study, and loans. U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and eligible non-citizens
  • WASFA opens avenues to state financial aid for non-citizens, including undocumented students, who can't complete FAFSA. It's for those without a Social Security Number but meeting Washington State residency requirements.

🎓 Scholarship Gateways:

  • Numerous scholarships hinge on FAFSA or WASFA completion.

💡 Institutional Aid Eligibility:

  • FAFSA details may determine eligibility for coveted institutional aid.

🚀 Early Advantage:

  • Apply early for priority consideration; some aid operates on a first-come, first-served basis.

💰 Financial Insight:

  • Examine your family's financial landscape for personalized aid packages.
  • FAFSA opens doors to affordable federal student loans.

💼 Work-Study Prospects:

  • The FAFSA paves the way for work-study programs, marrying work experience with financial support.

How to Begin:

LC Alumni of Distinction

We are in the process of choosing our alumni of distinction for next year. If you think any former students would be good nominees for this or future years, please click this link and let us know.

Our goal is to have students look at the alumni and see a possible future version of themselves, so please consider these criteria.

  1. Please nominate people who are still living.
  2. Please nominate people from all stages of life - last year, we honored one alum who is still in his 20s, and another who is still in her 30s.
  3. Please consider a wide range of accomplishments, from politics to business to the arts to sports to law to science. There are many ways to excel in this world!
  4. Please consider alumni from diverse backgrounds. We would like all of our students to be able to see themselves reflected in our alumni.
