One City, One Book Committee Update

The La Cañada Flintridge One City, One Book Committee is in the process of choosing its 2024 selection!

The committee selects a single book, primarily from fiction, memoir and history, each year for the community to read and discuss and hosts a reading event open to the public in the fall at the La Cañada Flintridge Library.

Stay tuned for more updates on the selection.

Bear Safety

Bear relocation may seem like a simple solution, but it is far more complex than it appears. In a presentation focused on living in close proximity to bears, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife discussed the various problems associated with bear relocation:

  • Bears will almost always return to their original location
  • Relocated bears can introduce diseases to new populations or contract illnesses from other wildlife
  • It is difficult to find relocation sites where bears won't encounter other humans, especially in Southern California
  • Relocation shifts conflict to another area impacting new communities
  • Relocation doesn't fix the root of the problem, as food and other attractants will continue to draw bears in

Burglary Suppression Efforts

The City and Crescenta Valley Station would like to remind residents to prioritize home security. Follow these tips to keep your home safe and secure:

  • Install security cameras at key entry points and vulnerable areas of your property.
  • Use motion-activated lights around your home.
  • Download home security apps that allow you to monitor while away.
  • Invest in an alarm system with monitoring and glass-break sensors.
  • Utilize City resources like the Neighborhood Watch Program.

Together, we can keep our community secure. To report any suspicious activity, please call the Crescenta Valley Station at (818) 248-3464. For emergencies, dial 911.
