INFORMATION & UPDATES

Launch Conferences

We want to see students and families! We are offering Launch Conferences on Thursday, August 31 and Friday, September 1 to start the school year. We are excited to launch the new school year by getting to know you and your student. The district will send out a Conference Scheduling link to family email(s) on file and text it to you Blackboard Messenger on August 19. We will have more information in the next LC News.

At the conference your Advisory teacher will provide an overview school logistics (verifying your contact information, helping you get connected to PowerSchool, highlight the importance of regular attendance, and connect you to school and community resources). Be sure to come a little early or stay after your conference to check out your new laptop. All students need to check out a laptop this year.

You can also buy your GSL, parking pass, and yearbook before/after your conference at the Business Office.

Please email Janet Lane or call 509-354-6941 if you have any questions about our Launch Conferences.

Schedules and Schedule Changes

Draft schedules are available to students and parents NOW in PowerSchool. Schedules will NOT be mailed home, so log into your account to ensure you have the correct login/password. Schedules are likely to change over the next few weeks as we balance classes (this means periods and teachers may shift, but the actual classes are mostly settled). This is part of the normal scheduling process. Keep checking PowerSchool for any updates.

We cannot accommodate specific teacher, period, or lunch requests due to full classes, balancing, and the complexity of the schedule. Thank you for your understanding.

  • If you have a schedule change request due to an error on your schedule or you want to change a class, contact Theresa Meyer (counselors will return at the end of August).
  • If you are doing Running Start and your schedule still shows LC classes, please email Theresa Meyer so we can drop the classes you do not need.
  • If you don't remember your login, do NOT try to reset it on the site (it will not work) instead email Janet Lane for reset help.

Pay for Yearbook, GSL, & Parking Passes

GSL, Yearbooks, and parking permits are on sale now in the Business Office and online:

  • $42 student GSL Card (required for all students participating in activities and athletics)
  • $50 Yearbook, yearbook pre‐sales end December 22.
  • $5 student parking pass (must be purchased in the Business Office) or $90 for a meter pass. You may only purchase one parking pass this year, so you must choose between the lots and the meters. Parking is on a first come, first served basis.
  • Optional: Donation to Yearbook fund for students who are unable to purchase one. Every dollar donated helps a family in financial need. Thank you for your donation!

Buy Your Adult/Family GSL Pass

GSL Single and Family Passes for 2023-2024 are on sale now at www.shopgsl.com. The sports pass is good for all regular season games at all 16 GSL schools.

School Bus & STA Registration

This year the transportation of our students looks much the same as last year. Zum is our new yellow bus provider and they are ready to go! Please remember you must register your student to ride the yellow bus system (Zum) and review the STA bus system process. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Phil High-Edward at LC (354-6898), Cory Arkle at SPS Transportation (354-7776) or Spokane Transit Authority (509-328-7433).

If LC is your neighborhood high school, you live outside the walk boundary (more than a 1.5-mile straight line distance from school to home), and live outside STA’s service area you are eligible to ride the Zum school bus.

Freshman & New Student Orientation

On August 30 from 6:00-7:00pm we will be holding our Freshman and New Student Orientation for students and parents. It will be an opportunity to tour the school, meet teachers, counselors, coaches, and administrators, and get information on all of the wonderful options Lewis and Clark has to offer students and families. This is a separate event from the Launch Conferences designed to provide information to new students. The doors will be open at 5:30pm and the presentation will begin promptly at 6:00pm in the LC Auditorium. We look forward to seeing you there! If you have questions, please contact Brandon Bouge

First Football Game

The first football game of the year is Friday, September 1 @ 4:00pm up at Hart Field against Ferris High School!

Parking will be limited, so plan to carpool or walk. Your GSL card will get you in for FREE, otherwise tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults. More information coming soon.

Attendance

Attendance is a key predictor in student success. It is important for your child to be here every day! For tips on how to support your child's attendance, click here.

If your child is going to be absent or late due to an appointment, please call our Attendance Hotline at 354-6968.

Bell Schedules & School Year Calendar

We are still finalizing our bell schedules, we will share class times in an upcoming LC News and post on www.lctigers.com.

All Mondays will be late start with 1st period beginning at 9:00am and there will not be Zero Hour classes on Mondays. We will also have Advisory on Mondays. This year, Advisory will be by grade level as a standalone class (after 2nd period).

We will continue with a 2-lunch schedule this year. Your lunch is determined by the location of your 4th period:

  • 1st lunch: If your 4th period is on the Ground Floor (rooms that begin with a "0") or 3rd floor (rooms that begin with a "3").
  • 2nd lunch: If your 4th period is in the Commons (rooms that begin with a "C"), 1st floor (rooms that begin with a "1"), 2nd floor (rooms that begin with a "2"), or Fieldhouse (rooms that begin with an "F").

You can download the Spokane Public Schools 2023-2024 calendar here.

Basic School Supply List

LC will provide a laptop and textbooks to all students. Some teachers may also have specific items to add to the list once the year begins, but here is our basic school supply list:

  • large 3-ring binder with at least 6 dividing tabs
  • loose, white, college-ruled paper
  • #2 pencils/mechanical pencils
  • pens - black or blue ink

Immunization Information

Please be aware that all students in Spokane Public Schools are required by state law to be fully vaccinated prior to the first day of attendance (RCW 28A.210.080). If the student’s immunization record is not complete, the student will be excluded from school. If your child is exempt from vaccination, please ensure that your school receives this documentation. At this time, the requirement to be fully vaccinated does not include the COVID vaccine. Visit the SPS website for more information.

LC Yearbook Senior Photos & Senior Ads

LC Senior Parents, please take a moment to review the attached documents for information on Senior Photos and Senior Ads for the 2023-2024 LC yearbook. Booking your Senior Photos early is a good idea to ensure you are able to meet the October 31 deadline. Those who are not able to book Senior Photos can schedule to get a free photo taken by a yearbook photographer in the fall by emailing lcyearbook@spokaneschools.org.

School Picture Day

School Picture Day is Thursday, September 7. All students are required to have pictures taken for the yearbook and student ID/GSL Card. Students may NOT wear hats, face coverings, or costumes for their official school photo. We will provide order information in the next LC News.

Activity & Athletic Registration

Registration for Spokane Public Schools athletics and activities is now being done through FinalForms, an online data management service that replaces FamilyID. FinalForms saves data from season-to-season and year-to-year, meaning families will never need to enter the same information twice. FinalForms also pre-populates data wherever possible, saving time for families registering multiple students.

To get started, click on the Parent Playbook. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Use Support” if you need assistance. You may review your data at any time to verify it is current. You will be required to sign your forms once per year and after any update.

IMPORTANT: You will receive an account confirmation email from FinalForms. Please click the link and follow the steps to login and access your student(s) information. If you do not receive the email and want to register your student, please contact Dave Hughes.

Registration for fall sports is open now.

Free Breakfast & Lunch for All

Breakfast and Lunch is free again this year for all LC students. We will be asking that all families complete the CEP survey during Launch Conferences. CEP is the Community Eligibility Provision. It is the program Spokane Public Schools runs to offer free meals to all students.

Although meals are free to all students this school year, filling out the Family Income Survey helps ensure school funding is maintained for essential programs. Students who qualify can get added benefits like waived sports fees and waived AP/SAT testing fees.

You can get a head start by filling out the CEP survey now. We will also have computers available at Conferences for you to fill out the form.

Lockers

In the first few days of school, we will be issuing lockers to students who would like to use one. We will share the sign up process in the next LC News and in the daily bulletin.

Student & Parent/Visitor Parking

Parent/Visitor Parking: LC does NOT have designated visitor parking, so you can park at any of the metered spots across the street. For after-hours events, you can park for free in any of the parking lots under the freeway. The doors to the Commons building are handicap accessible.

Student Drop-off/Pick-Up: Buses pick up students all around the perimeter of the school. Please do not park in these locations before school/after school. We recommend arriving for pick up after the buses have left at 2:40pm.

Student Parking: LC students can park in the two freeway lots (in front of the Field House and in front of the church to the east). Be sure to display your student parking permit to avoid getting a ticket in the student lots. Student parking permits can be purchased in the Business Office for $5.

The lots under the freeway directly in front of the main building and the Commons and the Field House parking garage are ONLY for LC staff and are monitored and ticketed for cars without staff permits.

COLLEGE & CAREER PLANNING

BigFuture Scholarships & College Planning

BigFuture is a FREE resource from the College Board. The site can help with scholarship searches (23,000 in their database), FAFSA, college searches, college prep, college apps, and career exploration. Completing tasks on the site also make you eligible for BigFuture scholarships.

AP College Credit Search

If you are taking an AP class and wondering what credit the exam will give you with different colleges, check out the FREE AP College Credit Search tool. Select the AP class and the tool will let you know what score you need to earn (on a 1-5 point scale) for any college you are researching.

AP/College Board Accounts

If you are enrolled in an Advanced Placement (AP) class, you will need to create or access your existing College Board account (this is only for students that have a class with "AP" in the course title). Your account will give you access to AP Classroom resources and access for ordering your AP exams (we will order exams later in September). This account is not connected to your school accounts, so you will need to save the login and password (LC teachers do not have access to your login info, so if you forgot your login info, you will need to recover it on the AP website). Click here to go to the College Board website to either make sure you can access your account from last year or to create a new one if you are taking your first AP class.
