Anything is possible with a little imagination! Katerine “Kiki” L., a first-grade student from Emerson Parkside Academy, is one of nine U.S. finalists of NASA’s Power to Explore Challenge, which asked students to describe their dream space mission.
In her winning essay, Kiki dreams of exploring Kraken Mare, the largest lake on Saturn’s famous moon, Titan.

CPR, First Aid Class for Classified Employees
The Personnel Commission is offering free CPR/First Aid certification classes for classified employees on Friday, May 31. Classes will run from 9 a.m. to noon and 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Teacher Resource Center (ABC Room), 1299 East 32nd St., Signal Hill.
This classified staff development event is subject to manager/supervisor approval for District release time, and participants must be permanent classified employees. Priority registration will be given to classified employees working with special needs students.

Certificated Retirement, Resignation or Leave of Absence Requests
Certificated employees planning to resign, retire or request a leave of absence for the 2024-25 school year should complete the appropriate form as soon as possible. Resignations and requests for full-year leaves of absence received after June 30, 2024 will not be approved unless the District is able to hire a suitable replacement. If you have any questions, please contact Kimberly Dalton, Director, at extension 200-8108 or via email at kdalton@lbschools.net.
Resignations: Questions Regarding Benefits?
According to Article VI, "Compensation" in the TALB Contract, “Employees who have served a complete contract year are eligible for District-paid benefits through Sept. 30.” If you have any questions regarding the duration of benefits, please contact Risk Management at ext. 8233 or 8236.

Reminders from the Employee Benefits Team

Our annual enrollment for health benefits is coming up in May 2024. Any changes made during that time will be effective July 1, 2024. Please note: If you currently cover any dependents on your health benefits, you MUST re-submit your dependent documents during the annual enrollment period in May. Please look out for mailed reminders with instructions. No documents will be accepted until May.
- If you had LBUSD medical benefits in 2023, your Form 1095C has been mailed. If you had a Kaiser or Aetna HMO plan, you will need to retrieve your Form 1095B with coverage details directly from your medical carrier member web portal.
- Don’t lose out on free money! If you have either Kaiser or Aetna medical insurance, make sure to get your reward(s) for any of the appropriate wellness actions you’ve taken by the end of this plan year on June 30.
