LA Animal Services and Best Friends Animal Society to Host National Adoption Weekend June 30 - July 2

Los Angeles, June 29, 2023 – In anticipation of a busy 4th of July weekend at shelters, LA Animal Services and Best Friends Animal Society are hosting a National Adoption Weekend at all six LA Animal Services Centers starting tomorrow, June 30 through July 2. Adoption fees for dogs will be $51 (not including $20 license) and $75 for puppies. Adoption fees for cats will be $12.50 and $25 for kittens. View pets available for adoption at laanimalservices.com/pets.

“The 4th of July and the days leading up to the holiday are the busiest days for our shelters,” said Annette Ramirez, Interim General Manager for LA Animal Services, “With our Centers already full of wonderful pets, we’re really encouraging Angelenos to adopt or foster a pet and help create life saving space for another pet in need.”

Dogs and cats adopted from LA Animal Services join their new families already spayed or neutered, vaccinated, licensed, and microchipped, and adopters receive a VCA Healthy Start Certificate, which provides up to $250 of follow up veterinary care within the first 14 days of adoption. In addition, canine companions adopted from LA Animal Services are also eligible for free dog training classes at the Paws for Life K9 Rescue People & Pet Innovation Center in Mission Hills, CA. Contact Info@pawsforlifek9.org for more details.

Can't Adopt? Foster a Pet From LA Animal Services

Now’s the perfect time to foster a pet from LA Animal Services! Fostering a pet not only helps create life saving space for another animal in need, but it also gives a shelter pet a break from kennel life. Whether it’s for a weekend, two weeks, or two months, fostering is a great way to socialize a pet, making that pet more adoptable.

To become a foster pet parent, please complete this application and send it to ani.foster@lacity.org. LA Animal Services will provide you with the items you need, from a bed, crate, and toys, to ensure a happy and comfy sleepover for your canine foster companion.

Options to Surrendering a Pet

Please reconsider surrendering your pet to a shelter as our six shelters continue to operate at critical capacity. LA Animal Services offers alternative solutions to help keep pets and families together, that include Safety Net Foster, Home to Home, Pet Food Pantry, and helpful resource guides. We also work closely with intervention groups who will provide assistance with pet retention. If relinquishing your pet is the only option, appointments are required by calling 888-452-7381. Sick or injured animals will be admitted without an appointment.
