ADVOCACY IN ACTION
Social Housing in LA City
This week, BIA-LAV testified during the Los Angels City Housing Committee on the recently introduced Social Housing Motion. We're encouraged to see the City taking proactive steps to create and invest in housing. However, it's imperative that a funding solution work in tandem with all other housing efforts and does not negatively impact current or future home building. For questions contact Diana Coronado.
Climate Action: South Pasadena Reviews CAP Plan & Long Beach Postpones Adoption
At the South Pasadena Natural Resources & Environmental Commission meeting City staff presented the Draft Climate Action Plan (CAP). BIA-LAV testified on the potential cost increases on housing and issues affecting decarbonization thorough a 100% building electrification mandate. The CAP wont be adopted for several months.
On Tuesday, Long Beach City Council chose to postpone the Climate Action Adaption Plan (CAAP) hearing. This was a prudent decision, as mush of the Plan's methodology and assumptions have changed drastically since COVID-19. The CAAP was last heard in July 2019, where BIA-LAV testified.
