Laissez les Bon Temps Rouler!!

Mystic Krewe of Olympia!

Rolls Saturday, February 3rd at 6:00pm

New Rules for Jefferson Ave

In light of RVs, trailers and tents hogging / blocking access to the parade route for other attendees all trucks, reviewing stands, tents, trailers, beginning this year, will need to be 8' from the road's edge.

This only applies to Jefferson Avenue from 21st to 15th.

Green Lights??

New this year Covington Police Department is working with the LA Department of Transportation to gain control over certain traffic signals key to exiting Covington.

Our hope is, after the parade, to "green light" those signals to move our visitors out of town in a quick, efficient and safe manner.

Good Stuff.

Port-O-Lets

The City is placing port-o-lets along the parade route. There should be a pair within a couple of blocks from everyone.

So, in Covington, there is some place to pee on Mardi Gras day.

Purple dots on the map indicate intended locations.

Mardi Gras Day

Covington Lion's Club-------- Krewe of Bogue Falaya

After Party at the Trailhead: Groovy 7

All roll Mardi Gras morning for Covington's biggest Mardi Gras day celebration ever. Due to the size of the parades and number of events happening on Fat Tuesday, this year the route will end at 23rd and Jefferson Avenues rather than making a second trip down Boston Street.

New Jefferson Avenue parking rules apply (see above).

Meet a Clydesdale

at the Covington Trailhead

Bring out the kiddos, the paw paws and the mimis to the Covington Trailhead on February 8th, 400 - 6:00pm to meet a Clydesdale up close and personal. Big Thanks to Champagne Beverage for arranging this royal visit. Rex may be the King of Carnival, Zeus the King of Olympia and Budweiser the King of Beers, but Clyde Dale is the King of Horses ; )

Looking for a few Good Samaritans

Trash Boxes Along the Route

Public Works will have trash boxes set along the parade route. We purchased larger bags so they should be more user friendly this year.

Each box will have an extra bag or two folded over the lip of the box. Once a bag is full we're looking for a few Good Samaritans to remove the full bag, set it aside the box and insert the new bag.

Every piece of litter that goes into a bag is one less piece of litter our Public Works employees have to pick up after the parade.

With Appreciation, Mayor Mark

Congratulations Oak Alley!

Residents in one section of Oak Alley put enough grease down their drains to completely shut down a sewer lift station.

Public Works employees Dominic and Wayne got to spend an entire day lifting the pump from the wet well and digging the solidified grease out of the mechanism dripping in untreated wastewater.

Sarcasm aside, pouring grease down the drain is just about the worst thing one can do to our wastewater collection / treatment system. Please don't pour grease down your drain.

It's Gumbo Time!

(for a good cause)

Happy Sesquicentennial!!

A couple of years ago I was fortunate to be given the original program from Covington's 150 year birthday celebration.

Events marking the milestone were held from June 30th, 1963 to July 6th, 1963. They included vesper services, the official opening, inauguration of municipal officials and the Inaugural Ball ("Dancing and table accommodations will be limited to 500 persons"), 150 Year Review, Sesquicentennial Day, a golf tournament, visits from gubernatorial candidates and Bingo ($1 per card).

The list of citizens acknowledged for their support reads like a Who's Who of mid-20th century Covington including Mrs. Amos Neff who saved the program.
