A Note on Security

In response to the growing need for enhanced security, we have implemented a comprehensive security plan that includes restricted entry points, the installation of state-of-the-art surveillance cameras, and regular private security details on Shabbat and Yom Tov. For the coming weeks, we have engaged members of the Providence Police Department to provide security details and area patrols on Shabbat, for special events, and when our religious school is in session.

These efforts reflect Temple Emanu-El's unwavering commitment to providing a secure and welcoming environment for all who worship within its walls, ensuring that faith and community can thrive without fear.

Sell Your Hametz

Since ownership of hametz (bread and other leavened products) is not allowed during Pesah, ideally all hametz in one's possession would be given away or destroyed before the holiday begins. Since this often represents a financial hardship, the practice arose for people to store away their hametz before Pesah and arrange to sell it for the duration of the holiday. Click below to appoint Rabbi Fel to arrange a sale of your hametz.

The Best Place on Earth

THE BEST PLACE ON EARTH

by Ayelet Tsabari

A short story collection of primarily Mizrachi/Yemeni characters living in the present in Israel and the Diaspora. Their stories are rich and their characters are strong. The Best Place on Earth won the Sami Rohr Prize for Jewish Literature, among other accolades.

The Secret Chord

THE SECRET CHORD

by Geraldine Brooks

From shepherd to dotage, this is the story of King David, through the eyes of his prophet and conscience, Natan. Other characters add their own viewpoints: his opponents, advisors, mother, and wives. A complex character emerges, one both brutal and brilliant, regal and lustful.

The Kosher Pig

GREY BEES

by Richard J. Israel

The conundrum of trying to live in the modern world and maintaining Jewish tradition are covered in this collection of essays. Mr. Israel’s varied life has given him a close view of this dichotomy. He has been a rabbi in Bombay, India, a director of several Hillel chapters, and the director of the Rabbinic Program at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College.

Funds for Families in Kibbutz Kfar Aza

Please consider helping to financially secure a bright future for these beautiful & recently orphaned kids who will have to carry on without either of their parents.

Donate to Funds for Families in Kibbutz Kfar Aza

As we are all aware, the price of food (and general living) has increased tremendously. To help families around this holiday, we are now taking applications for assistance with Passover food/gift cards to families who are struggling financially. Below you will find a letter and application for Moes Chitim. Please share this with community members who may need assistance paying for kosher food during Passover, as we will be providing Stop & Shop gift cards.

We also have the Kosher Food Pantry here at JCS that you are welcome to refer to if needed. To refer to the pantry, please contact Krissy Jaycox (Pantry Coordinator) at 401-369-5052 to complete the paperwork and schedule a time to come in. Additionally, we have been able to do some confidential shopping hours for orthodox families who have preferred to have privacy when utilizing the pantry as we know that can be a barrier to accessing services.

Kindly,

Sunday, April 7, 2024 @ 2PM - The Reality of Sexual Violence in War
More Information and Registration HERE

Co-sponsors Rhode Island Coalition for Israel and Hadassah RI Chapter, together with numerous participating organizations, understand the need to raise awareness on the sexual violence that was perpetrated by Hamas against women in Israel on October 7th, 2023. The use of rape and sexual violence is a war crime recognized as a direct violation of the international rules of war (not to mention it is unacceptable in any situation).

Please join us on Sunday April 7th, 2-330pm Eastern on Zoom for our event "The Reality of Sexual Violence in War: 6 month commemoration of Oct 7 Hamas attacks in Israel" as we learn and explore more about the sexual brutality that happened on Oct 7 in Israel while hearing from two incredible keynote speakers, Nitsana Darshan-Leitner from Shurat HaDin Israel Law Center and Susan Seely from NA'AMAT USA (NA'AMAT is the largest women's movement in Israel and both speaker bios are in the photos below). We will also have the opportunity to hear from a few local organizations that work directly with or support women, including those that work in the domestic violence/sexual assault field here in Rhode Island. This event is open to and free for all to attend.

Participating Organizations: Rhode Island Coalition for Israel, Hadassah RI Chapter, Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island, Day One, Women's Fund of Rhode Island, Sandra Bornstein Holocaust Education Center, Independent Women's Network RI Chapter, Christians and Jews United for Israel, Israeli-American Civic Action Network, Core Connects RI, Shurat HaDin Israel Law Center, and NA'AMAT USA
