Remote Learning through Assistive Technology
Students that are considered to be at "high-risk" to Covid-19 may not have a choice but to learn remotely this fall. However, through the use of Assistive Technology, a remote learner can still be in the classroom participating in activities and engaging with their peers. The Double Robot, available through the ETC lending library at Missouri Assistive Technology, gives the student the opportunity to participate in classes on-site and engage in classroom activities.
The Double is a robot that can be in the school building while the student remains at home. The student can control the robot remotely either through a computer system or on an iPad. For the user it is like being in the school building. They can move the robot from class to class. They can ask questions and receive answers. They can engage with their peers through "face-to-face" discussions, as the Double allows the student to see their peers, and visa versa. To learn more about the Double and how to use it in the classroom, email Laura Hoffman at lhoffman@mo-at.org.
