Vet2Vet Coffee Hour

Fridays, 1:30-2:30 p.m.

June 7, 14, 21, 28

Organized in collaboration with Vet2Vet of Ulster County and the Hudson Valley Center for Veteran Reintegration (HVNCVR), this Veteran Coffee Hour aims to provide a safe and welcoming space for veterans to connect, share experiences, and find support. Whether recently discharged or a seasoned veteran, all are welcome to attend and engage in meaningful conversations over a cup of coffee.

Registration is not required. Walk-ins welcome.

Ulster County Department of Mental Health Neighborhood Office Hours

Thursday, June 6, 12:00-4:00 p.m.

A representative from the Ulster County Department of Mental Health will have an informational table set up at the Library for those seeking information about mental health services, opioid prevention materials, and more. One-on-one naloxone training and opioid prevention materials, such as educational zines and DisposeRX med disposal packets will be available. Drop in any time between 12:00-4:00 p.m.

Knitting & Crocheting Group

New time! Select Mondays, 6:00-7:30 p.m.

June 10 & 24

The Library will be holding an informal meetup every 2nd and 4th Monday (unless otherwise noted), from 6:00-7:30 p.m., where knitting and crocheting enthusiasts can come together, socialize, share tips, and work on projects together.

Please keep in mind that while this meetup will provide a supportive space for knitting and crocheting, it will be self-led, and guided instructions and supplies will not be provided at this time. Walk-ins welcome.

A Reading Life

Getting the Most Out of the Books You Read

Tuesday, June 11, 7:00 p.m.

Join award-winning author and publisher Laurence (Larry) Carr for a discussion about reading in a deeper, more satisfying way. During this presentation, Carr will discuss the major components of fiction: plot, character, and theme. He will also pose questions such as: What genres are you drawn to and why? Why do we “bail out” of some books after 50 pages? What books have been life changing for you? This presentation will cover a wide range of topics and offer suggestions about the current and future books that the avid reader will want to dive into.

The Water Level Route:

A Look at the Railroads of Newburgh & Early Car Float Service to Fishkill Landing

Thursday, June 20, 7:00 p.m.

Join author and historian Alex Prizgintas at the Library on June 20th at 7:00p.m., as he explores the early history of the Erie and West Shore railroads in Newburgh, NY, as well as the service of the William T. Hart—a steam-powered barge that transported railroad cars from the late nineteenth century until the turn of the twentieth century from Newburgh to Fishkill Landing en route to New England. Author Talk:

Linda McCauley Freeman

Thursday, June 27, 7:00 p.m.

Join us as local resident, Linda McCauley Freeman, reads from her full-length poetry collection, The Marriage Manual. Relying on both narrative and lyrical sequences, as well as haiku-like explorations, this book takes the reader through the emotional geography of married love and the ever-repeating cycle of hope, disappointment, despair, fear, joy and finally, mature love. This reading will be followed by a Q & A and book signing. RSVP, walk-ins welcome.

Gardening with Dottie DeMarco

Saturday, June 8, 11:30 a.m.–12:15 p.m.

For ages 9-13.

Registration required.

Dottie DeMarco, Dottie Leaf Plant Co., will lead us in an engaging gardening workshop. We’ll learn planting techniques and the benefits of gardening as we plant our own plant to take home for harvest.

Time to get comfy cozy at the library! Bring your stuffed animal to Twilight Story Time. We'll read & sing to our stuffed animals & prepare them for a fun sleepover at the library!

Mindful Yoga with Liz

Come move as a family with a certified yoga instructor from Mindful Yoga with Liz. No previous yoga experience necessary. Bring your yoga mats, blankets, towels, & water bottle. Let's get outside to move & breathe together as a family.
