 Technical Food For Thought:
  • My Geometry is just too complicated for Design by Rule in ASME Section VIII Division 1? When this is the case you might want to consider FEA modeling using "Design by Analysis" techniques in Part 5 of Section 2. FEA analysis can likely handle the complicated geometry and give you results you can count on.  KHE has been looking at these problems for years.  We are your one stop shop.  Our static equipment group has over a hundred years of experience in vessels and many involving complex risk management issues.
  • Blade flutter causing you problems by tripping out on high vibration? Perhaps a CFD analysis and overall process analysis  is required to see what is going on.  KHE can evaluate the mechanical and process response using CFD and FEA tools.  Our rotating group has over 150 years of experience in dealing with complex problems in Turbomachinery.
  • You need to know the "g loads" in the actual operation, not a simple shop test!  The answer is instrumenting and monitoring the actual operation.  Our  field services can serve your needs by developing and implementing a protocol to get the data you need.  KHE can take data and determine what the cause is.
  • What is the actual friction factors involving the tribology of the wearing parts?  Lab testing can provide insight to the actual wear parameters for design or failure analysis.  KHE can conduct testing to determine the compatibility of wear components.  You may be surprised at the results! In these situations sometimes an SEM evaluation will tell the story with proper characterization by our KHE staff.  Our Materials group can get to the bottom of it in our lab.
