At this Saturday's breakfast meeting, the Kiwanis Club of Weston will donate the net proceeds of the 2023 Reservoir Run Half Marathon to Kids in Crisis. Rick Reichert, Major Gifts and Planned Giving Officer at Kids in Crisis will join us for breakfast, receive our donation on behalf of Kids in Crisis, and briefly speak about recent programs for children in Fairfield County and Connecticut.
Kids in Crisis recently reported on the success of the TeenTalk in-school counseling program in enhancing Fairfield County student mental health.
Fairfield County Student Mental Health: A Community Call to Action
In Fairfield County’s schools, our students are sending us a message. They aren’t asking for more recess; they’re pleading for help with their Fairfield County student mental health. At Kids In Crisis, we’ve heeded this call through our TeenTalk program, placing master ’s-level mental health counselors in middle and high schools across the county. The 55% increase in student engagement at Greenwich’s three middle schools, mirroring county-wide trends, highlights an undeniable reality: the mental well-being of our youth is not just a personal issue but a community priority.
Looking Ahead: Investment in Our Children’s Future
Our half-year report showcases a truth we cannot ignore: students rely on TeenTalk. The spike in school administrator requests for counselors, up 240%, speaks volumes about the pressing need for even more support in Fairfield County student mental health.
The narrative is clear, and the stakes are high. As each town grapples with budget cuts, let us remember that skimping on mental health resources today may cost us far more tomorrow—not just in dollars but in the well-being of the next generation.
Come to the Kiwanis club meeting this Saturday and hear more from Rick. We have asked him to speak for 5-10 minutes on the latest developments regarding their mission.
