KIWANIS - THE BEST KEPT SECRET?

WHY IS THAT? WHAT CAN WE DO?

If we are proud of the impact our Kiwanis club makes with kids in our community, we "should" be shouting from the roof tops!

Ask yourselves the questions below and read the resources and the tips to improve. If your club doesn't do the item, ask why not?

  • I'm sure we all tell family, friends and acquaintances the great work Kiwanis does in the community for kids.

  • Does your club have a newsletter to keep members up to date on upcoming projects or events and remind them of the impact they are having in the community?

Resources for Member Outreach

Good, Bad and Ugly of Email

  • Have we reached out to local media with a story idea? Do you know the local radio, paper and other media in your community?

  • How to work with the media. What is your key message. Writing a press release. What makes news? Interviewing tips...

Resources for Media Relations

Ms. Vickie's Club PR and Media Notes

  • Do we wear Kiwanis logo clothing and display Kiwanis signage at project sites. Do people know "who" we are as we volunteer in the community?

Kiwanis and Club Logos

The Kiwanis Brand

  • Does the club have a website or social media account to reach to a broader audience beyond just existing members. If not, you are missing out in connecting with your community!

Club Website Resources

Social Media Resources

  • Are Membership, Partnership and Service committees working together to maximum communication impact?

Using Branding to Grow your Club

Could the challenge be:

  • lack of knowledge of "how to"?

  • lack of confidence in our ability to "learn new things"?

  • busy Kiwanians, too many jobs and not enough members to take on?

  • not prioritized by the club as "important enough"?

  • "we've always done it this way" thinking?

  • not appreciating that as times change, our projects and communication need to change as well?

We have all complained that "Kiwanis is the best keep secret in town."

The time is now to change so that Kiwanis is the best known, most active service club in town!

  • Identify the challenge (the impediment to your goal)

  • What are the options to remove the impediment and move forward?

  • Outside opinions Perhaps the Lt Governor or an outside Kiwanis coach could help?

  • It all starts with you and the club.
