Remember to Register Early:

Ensure you register for the bulky item pickup service a week before your designated collection day to avoid any inconvenience.

What Qualifies as Bulky Items?

Bulky items are those too large to fit in your trash cart. This includes large household items such as furniture, appliances like stoves, refrigerators, water heaters, washers, dryers, microwaves, as well as rugs, carpet, and small air conditioning units. Doors and windows should be wrapped in cardboard for safety.

Limitations on Bulky Items:

You can place up to four (4) large items at the curb for pickup.

Placement for Collection:

Items should be placed 1 to 3 feet from the curb or street pavement. Ensure they're out on the curbside by Sunday night before your collection day. Make sure the items are easily accessible and not blocked by vehicles.

Preparation of Items:

Glass items such as doors, tables, windows, and mirrors should be securely wrapped in cardboard. Also, remember to drain all gasoline and oil from items like lawn mowers before placing them out for collection.

Items Not Accepted:

The service does not accept computers, printers, hazardous materials, commercial items, yard waste, construction debris, tires, auto parts, railroad ties, concrete, bricks, stones, boulders, rocks, dirt, or household trash. Setting out non-acceptable items may result in a ticket.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for (audience)? Why should they care (benefit)? What do I want them to do (call-to-action)?

Create a great offer by adding words like "free," "personalized," "complimentary," or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take action, so consider inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"

Recent storms and rainfall have rendered some trees unstable. Just last week, a massive tree in my neighbor's yard toppled over—roots and all. Fortunately, it didn't damage any homes, but it did disrupt electricity, cable, and phone services for over six hours. The primary challenge was removing the tree so that the electric department could repair the lines. A heartfelt shoutout to Kirkwood Electric for their swift response in restoring our services.

It's crucial to inspect your trees and shrubs for signs of instability, particularly if the soil in the area has been consistently wet. When in doubt, seeking advice from a professional is advisable.

With many perennials having finished their blooming season, it's time to cut back their stems. Some might appear unkempt, so trimming them can spur new growth. The same goes for annuals that have grown leggy—trim them back. Although they may not look great immediately post-trim, like any haircut, they tend to improve after a couple of weeks.

Despite the heat, now is the perfect opportunity to start a cool-season garden for the fall. Broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, and spinach are among the many vegetables that can be planted now. Imagine enjoying a BLT with your own homegrown lettuce and tomatoes—delicious!

Soon, mums, ornamental cabbage, and other fall plants will be available. I recommend waiting to plant them until later in the month when temperatures are likely to be more stable. Ensure these new plants are kept well-watered.
