ELC celebrates 4th Annual Kidpreneur Summer Business Learning Program | The Early Learning Coalition of the Big Bend Region, Inc. is hosting the finale for its 4th Annual Kidpreneur Summer Business Learning Program. The event celebrates the entrepreneurial achievements of 25 ambitious and creative young participants, ages 8 to 12, who have spent the summer learning and building their own businesses from scratch. Through a partnership with the Capital City Chamber of Commerce, these young business owners attended weekly workshops at the ELC office, where they developed essential business skills and honed their products. The businesses represented in this year's program include jewelry making, woodworking, textile arts, and mixed media artistry. | | | | |
New survey results show parents want more summer programming | The survey of more than 6,800 parents finds that more than half parents (55%) report that their child took part in at least one structured activity last summer, including day camps, weekly enrichment courses, summer school, and day care. A majority of parents whose children didn’t participate in a summer activity in 2023 (53%) said that they wished that their children could have participated but weren’t able to and still 43% of parents whose child did take part in a summer activity would have liked them to participate in more. | | | | |
Florida's OUC Hosts Youth Energy Academy | Florida public power utility OUC on July 25 hosted a Youth Energy Academy interactive experience for local students to learn about a career in the utility industry. Approximately 65 students from Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Lake counties visited OUC’s Conway Water Treatment Plant facility to participate in a series of hands-on learning exercises, including a Balancing the Grid engagement session hosted by the Orlando Science Center and a Mock Hurricane Simulation by BAM (Black Architects in the Making) Orlando. | | |

LEARNING FROM OTHERS: A North Texas school district is offering a free dinner program for students this year | The Fort Worth Independent School District will offer free dinners to students at most schools for the upcoming school year. Any campus in the district that offers an after-school enrichment program will feature the program. Even if students are not enrolled in the after-school activities their school offers, they will still be able to receive a free dinner if they are present at school that day. | | | | |
