Welcome back!

The first day of the 2024-2025 school year was full of smiles from parents and children taking photos together.

Students on the main campus picked up where they left off last year -- with little ones swinging on the playground, middle schoolers hanging out in the Quad, lower schoolers in the cafeteria or theater garden — and upper schoolers finding their own spots on campus.

Meanwhile at the Little School, the youngest Cobras apprehensively started their day but quickly adjusted to running and playing right before lessons.

Students return to meet their new teachers

Two days before K-12 students started classes, they came to campus to meet their new teachers and go through an orientation for older students to learn new schedules and routines.

Faculty and staff prepare for new year

Faculty and Staff had a busy week of activities for their in-service.

Among them, they discussed their summer reading, "Never Enough: When Achievement Culture Becomes Toxic," by Jennifer Breheny Wallace, and they spent an afternoon volunteering at Meals on Wheels.

During their volunteer work, Keystone faculty members made 975 'power packs' of nonperishable food, made phone calls to clients, and made greeting cards by hand.

Upper Schoolers create mural to honor classmate

A group of Upper Schoolers and some recent graduates painted a mural on an upstairs wall in the Library in honor of Siri Reddy '24, who passed away her junior year.

In the mural, students celebrated Siri's love of music, fondness of cats, her Indian heritage, and other aspects of her personality.

Senior excels at Girls State

Congratulations to senior Julia, who won a top position at Texas Girls State over the summer.

She won Federal State Party Chair at the event.

Girls State, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, aims to teach young people about the fundamentals of government. Each year, some 500 girls throughout the state come together at Texas Lutheran University to establish their own city, county, and state governments.

Each girl is assigned a party, "National" or "Federal," which do not correspond to either of the current major political parties.

Second-grader receives piano honors

Congratulations to second-grader Uditi.

She was declared a winner of the Elementary Class at National Piano Playing Auditions by The National Guild of Piano Teachers.

In the Piano Guild Auditions, students play for a judge or a panel of judges to set goals for future improvement.

Keep going, Uditi!

Billy's Blog: From our Head of School

There is a popular fallacy that falling down is the mark of a poor skater. But the truth is that when one stops falling, he has probably stopped improving.

Welcome back! We hope your children had a great first week of school, and they are back in the rhythm of waking up early and starting their classes. It has been wonderful seeing their smiling faces back on campus. Even for the youngest students, any apprehensions will soon disappear, and they will be in the comfortable routine of school.

Starting school marks the culmination of a summer’s worth of activities and we’re excited to share what we have done over the past few months. For some faculty and staff, the 2024-2025 school year began in May, right after graduation. We began planning the coming school year, making improvements around campus, and ensuring that things would be ready for your children to arrive this week.

Meanwhile, our Upper School volleyball and soccer teams already began their school year with practices to prepare for the upcoming season. Our graduating seniors commenced their year on Monday, August 12 with a half day college counseling boot camp where they worked on their applications and essays with Director of College Counseling Sara Christiansen. The following morning, the seniors gathered in a local park for the annual Senior Sunrise-a rite of passage where they watch the sun come up and start the school year together. They will experience many unique traditions this year, and we wish them, and all of our students, a wonderful school year.

Recently some students talked about how school is hard but they were ready to come back. This description captures the heart of the culture at Keystone: challenging and nurturing. Some schools emphasize challenging students and others are nurturing. Very few are both.
