Industry News

Surfaces/Stone Expo was a small convention though next year the Naturals Stone institute is gearing up for a much larger scale on large equipment and education. David Bonasera is working with the NSI for some education class.

Hear is a tease.

1)    So if it’s not the stones fault, whose fault is it. This will be a power point on past jobs were the contractors blames the stone but was the installers fault.

2)    Martin Brook with the NTCA will be doing a power point on new standards that a lot of people are getting in trouble with and the proper placement of stone. (And not because it looks good)

3) What you don’t know, you don’t know about diamond tools. Adam Tompkins with Genesis diamond tools. This will be the 1st time that the full education of diamond in blades and pads has ever been done at this show.

4)   WHY DO I NEED A GOOD STONE ADHESIVE? (Who cares, I just want to make money).

By Paul Klees with Bonstone. Contractors are buying and replacing jobs now for bleeding, staining, and yellowing near UV light even inside, Failures are happing more now through out the United States using cheap and the wrong adhesives in porous and white stones.

5)    You don’t know jack about sealers (This title may change) This will be with Fred Hueston, and the understanding why long term sealers are not that long term and in the realm of the science of sealing stone.

6)    Will this color work for me.- John Hamilton speaker We will bore you for a few minutes on the movement of titanic plates and millions of year of movement and compression of natural stone followed by an exploration, color by color, of examples of stone and their various applications. In addition, things to look out for when choosing stones of a certain color will also be explored. Be inspired by various color installations that will show real examples beyond the traditional colors of white, black, beige and grey!  This class is for designers and other trades who need a practical knowledge of the proper use and full understanding of natural stone, (there strengths and weakness).
