Children’s Summer Reading Games | |
Every summer, we host the Summer Reading Games! You can read (or be read to) any type of material, including chapter books, picture books, graphic novels, and audiobooks. Pick up a reading log from the Children’s Department starting June 26th and colour in one section of the image for every 10 minutes of reading. There are weekly check-in prizes, as well as prizes for completing reading logs. Also, completing reading logs will earn you a ballot for a chance to win one of our grand prizes that will be drawn at the end of summer.

Let’s read about pets and animal companions together! Our picture book is Dear Stray In by Kirsten Hubbard and illustrated by Susan Gal. Our middle-grade pick is We Could Be Heroes, a realistic fiction novel by Margaret Finnegan.
Both books are available to borrow from the Children’s Information Desk throughout the months of May and June. Complete the list of book club questions and return your answers to be entered in a prize draw!

Starting on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 drop in to our Cube Club twice a month. Join other kids with similar interests and use our Lego collection and Rubik’s Cubes. Come share your knowledge of the Rubik’s Cube, learn how to use a Rubik’s cube, and socialize.
This is a patron run, drop-in program. Lego bricks and Rubik’s cubes supplied; first come first serve. Patrons recommended to bring own Rubik’s cubes.

Hug-a-Tree and Survive is an AdventureSmart program that helps lost children survive in the woods. It teaches children how not to become lost in the woods, and what to do should they become lost.

This program is to encourage confidence in reading for children. Book a 15-minute session reading to a friendly service dog from Partners Naturally Academy Program. There will be 2 sessions running at a time. We ask that caregivers attend along with children. Siblings are allowed to attend.

Looking to book a tour for a school group or other organization? Contact Kate Renfree, Children's Programmer – Tours and School Liaison at krenfree@gppl.ca with your preferred date, time, age of group, number of people who will attend, and whether you would like library cards made.
Our free tours are an hour in length, and can start as early as 10:00 am when the library opens. For younger children (grade 3/age 8 and younger), we do story time, information about the library, a physical tour of the library space, and a chance to browse for books. For older groups, we explore the library website and digital offerings, tour the library space, and browse for books at the end.

Session 2: Building Conversation Skills
One of the biggest challenges with communication can be starting conversations and keeping them going. It is normal to struggle. Some people, especially if they are anxious, find it difficult to talk. Or the opposite can happen, and they talk too much. This session will explore ways to start conversations, keep them going, and end them gracefully.

How does a seed Library work? Gardeners “borrow” seeds from the Library at planting time. At the end of the growing season, they save seeds from the plants and return a portion of the seeds to the Library. We are now accepting your harvested seeds to share in the spring. Partner Loss Support Group | |
The loss of a spouse can be devastating. Join fellow grieving widows and widowers to foster the sharing of personal stories, ideas, and helpful information related to loss, grief, and end-of-life issues, as well as bring grievers with diverse backgrounds together to support each other after the loss of a partner.
This group is a completely safe and private space where you can interact as much (or as little) as you’d like with others whose spouses have died. This group will meet on the second Monday of each month.
