Sankofa Pilgrimage

Sankofa* Pilgrimage, a continuing education opportunity, October 16-20, 2024

Sponsored by the Synod of Lakes and Prairies.

The underlying power of Sankofa is that knowing our history and heritage, we better know ourselves and the world around us.

We will visit sites of the Civil Rights Movement in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama, as well as sites which document the history of slavery in the United States. Part of this pilgrimage will be exploring the role of the Presbyterian Church and what we can learn from the past to carry into the future. Learn more

Bridging the gap: Engaging young adults in faith and social justice

BY ADRIAN WHITE, The Presbyterian Outlook

The Young Adult Advocacy Conference, hosted in Charlotte this fall, aims to show young people the connection between faith photo curtesy of Presbyterian Mission and justice work, both historically and today. Agency

As the participation of young adults in organized Christianity declines, participation in advocacy and justice work seems to be on the rise. Some Presbyterian leaders are working to bridge that gap.

“There’s a big disconnect,” said Jimmie Hawkins, director of the Office of Public Witness in Washington, D.C. “Young people are emotionally engaged in justice issues. Many movements around the country are not only participated in by young adults but led by them, such as March for Our Lives. But young adults don’t see that churches are engaged in justice and advocacy.” Read more

The Ministry Lab

It was a joy to be with several PC(USA) leaders at the Leadership Summit at Christ the King Retreat Center and the Annual Synod Meeting at Mt Olivet Retreat Center. Thank you for letting me participate in both!

I appreciated the sense of community these gatherings offered: the feeling of collegiality, of being co-con-Spiritors in carrying out God’s dreams for this planet, state, church, and our specific communities, and the openness to faithful transformation that is sweeping through our congregations.

Whether you attended our Leadership Summit workshop or heard our Annual Synod Meeting presentation or not, we’d like to follow up with a reminder and links to further information about the Innovation Culture Index (ICI) and the Ministry Transformation Lab launching this September. Read more
