Staff Appreciation is this week, May 8-12, and our Staff Appreciation Committee has something fun planned every day this week to show our appreciation for all of our Alki Staff!
Monday: Spa Day "We can't mask our appreciation for our Alki Staff"
Tuesday: Raffle and Chocolate "Thanks a choco-lot for all that you do"
Wednesday: Lunch for all "We appreciate you a bunch, please enjoy this delicious lunch"
Thursday: Bring flowers from the store or your garden to help create flower bouquets for all staff! "We couldn't have hand-picked a better staff"
Friday: Coffee and Kid Notes. Bring your notes, drawings, cards for staff to show appreciation! All staff will receive giftcards to Current Coffee to "Please enjoy this cup of gratitude for all that you do"
We are in need of a few volunteers to assist with this week. If you're interested in helping out, sign up here!

When: Friday, May 12th from 5-7pm
Where: Alki Cafeteria
Drop off your kiddo, adult chaperones will be on site or stay and boogie the night away with your kiddo!

Yearbook Cover - Student Art
We are excited to bring back student art for the cover of our yearbook! There is no contest and all submissions will be included if these simple rules are followed:
1. Art to describe our theme of “Alki Seagulls soaring to new places". This can include art of our school building, Alki beach, Seymour the seagulls, whales, or anything else that draws inspiration from that theme.
2. Please do not have any writing on your art. We will include on title on the cover in text font.
3. Please use 8.5 x 11 paper or smaller
4. Any medium can be used but art must be 2D (flat on the paper)
5. And of course, it needs to be appropriate.

The Alki PTA Nominating Committee is on the move seeking next year's PTA Officers and board members! If you have been thinking about how you can be more involved at Alki we would love to talk to you. There is absolutely NO obligation to commit and all Nominating Committee business remains confidential as we seek candidates for the June 1st election. Nearly all positions are open next year - learn more about board roles and responsibilities and approximate time commitment HERE.
The Nominating Committee appreciates recommendations by our community members of individuals suited to PTA leadership positions. Bike to School Day Ride - May 17th | |

Wednesday, May 17th: Join Us for a Bike to School Day Ride!
-Parents / guardians: you must accompany your children in order for them to participate. Grab your bike and helmet and join the fun!
-Fun prizes – Alki reflective bracelets! (while supplies last!)
-Treats at ride end in parking lot, just north of school
-Bike parking available during school in the courtyard!
When: Wednesday, May 17th – meet up at 7:00 am
Where: We will have two bike “trains” you can consider joining or choose your own route and ride with your friends and family to school!
-Bike Train #1: Beach Drive Express – meet at Me-Kwa-Mooks Park on Beach Dr. SW at 7:00 am
-Bike Train #2: Alki Ave. Express – meet at Anchor Park on Harbor Ave. SW at 7:00 am

Mark your calendars for our annual Art Walk and Auction on Thursday, May 18th from 2:45-6:30pm.
Every student will have an art collection showcased in the halls, as well as a grade level collaborative project that will be up for auction! I can’t wait to share the wonderful artwork each student has created with you!

Save the Date: Alki-a-thon is June 23rd! | |
Our favorite day of the year is coming up, the Alki-a-thon! Alki PTA's second largest fundraiser where students run, walk, or skip around the field to earn pledges for each lap. Our goal is to raise $25,000!
We can't make this event happen without a lot of volunteer support: setting up course, tallying laps, bring snacks for students, etc.

Homework Help at Seattle Public Libraries High Point Branch! We're excited to see this program available again for students.
If you are working on a tough homework assignment or have questions about a lesson, come to the Library for Homework Help. We have volunteers who can help K-12 students with math, science, English, social studies and science. Students without homework can read and play learning enrichment games with trained tutors.
No reservations are needed although students and volunteers will be limited to a number safe for each space. Just come to the Library during Homework Help hours and bring your homework assignment and textbook. If our volunteers do not know an answer, they will help you find it.

The West Seattle 5K is returning this year on Sunday, May 21st for the first time since 2019. The 12th running of the WS5K is presented by the West Seattle High School PTSA. Participants will enjoy a beautiful five-kilometer course along Alki Avenue SW. The course begins at the Alki Bath House and proceeds east along Alki Avenue SW.
