Don't Let Your Personal Information Fall Into the Wrong Hands

From the desk of Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney Melissa Powers

Dear neighbors,

A recent call into our 513-946-SCAM helpline really highlights the lengths people will go to in order to defraud senior citizens.

A man reported to my team that someone hacked into the Cash App on his phone and took $4,200 from his bank account.

An investigation showed the man's neighbor frequently asks to use the man's phone, and that she transferred the money into her own account during one of the times she asked to use the device.

Sadly, the majority of crime against seniors happen this way--perpetrated by someone the person knows in their daily life. While there is now a warrant out for this woman's arrest, the case serves as a reminder for everyone.

Please keep your personal information guarded at all times.

Use two-factor authentication on any bank apps. Create strong passwords. Make sure to monitor your bank statements. Don't trust others with your checking or savings information.

Finally, the moment you believe something is wrong, call your local police department, or our scam helpline.

Always fighting for you,

Melissa Powers
