From our President:

Stamford Cradle to Career in partnership with Stamford Public Schools in proud to present a City and School Forum on Student Safety and Mental Health. This panel discussion will take place on the 4th floor of the Government Center at 6pm on Wednesday, May 25th. This event is open to the public as well as being livestreamed on Facebook through both the city of Stamford and Stamford Cradle to Career’s social media platforms. Join Mayor Simmons, Superintendent Lucero, Police Chief Shaw, and a panel of experts for an interactive discussion around the safety and mental health of students in Stamford.

Also, in partnership with Stamford Public Schools, SC2C (Stamford Cradle to Career) is offering School Climate and Restorative Practice Trainings. We are pleased to offer these FREE sessions during the last week of June as well as the first week of August to be most conducive to educators' schedules. These virtual training sessions are provided by Jo Ann Frieberg of School Climate Consultants. The training includes concrete and practical strategies for establishing the appropriate classroom and school-based routines as well as conducting circles and conferences in primary prevention as well as intervention contexts. This is accomplished by focusing not on rules broken and punitive consequences but rather on the harms done and providing appropriate restorative consequences and the systems that are necessary to repair and support strong relationships among all school community members (students and adults).

Please join us along with Stamford Stands Against Racism for a moderated discussion, Investing in Racial Equity, with two philanthropic leaders in Fairfield County. Juanita James, President & CEO of Fairfield County’s Community Foundation, and David Addams, Executive Director of the William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund will discuss how they made the shift to prioritizing racial equity in their organizations, how they diversified their staffing, and what they look for in organizations regarding a commitment to racial equity when making funding decisions.

Best,
Edith Presley

READ BEYOND
THE BEATEN PATH
This summer we are going to help your child continue to read and find ways to make it fun!

The Stamford Summer Literacy Initiative is a FREE program that provides reading support and a literacy-rich environment within selected Stamford summer camps.

While summer is a time for outdoor activities and fun, it also often results in loss of learning and reading skills. Without consistent reading and focused literacy time, students can fall behind by two or more months over the summer.

Spotlight on Maternal Health Awareness:

The month of May marks Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month

This event focuses on the importance of mental health during pregnancy and shortly after birth. Most new mothers experience the "baby blues," or periods of tears, worry, and irritability shortly after giving birth.

Take a moment to watch this video in which our community coordinator, Danielle Walker and Carla Pileggi Caviola from Elyon Professional Counseling discuss maternal mental health awareness.
