SPRING IS HERE!

Message from the President
Larry Slater, PhD, RN-BC, CNE, FAAN
Spring is always such a wonderful time of year. As the days get longer, we begin to enjoy the sun well into the evening. Trees will soon be covered in new leaves and flowers will be in full bloom. In the spring we experience “all things new," and at the Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association (FNSNA), we too, have been hard at work on our own version “new."
On Friday, February 23rd, an excellent and committed scholarship selection committee composed of nursing faculty and students met to review applications and award scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year. The FNSNA is proud to announce that over $553,000 in scholarships was awarded to 216 nursing students across the country. This could not have been accomplished without the generous support of our individual and corporate sponsors.
FNSNA is springing into into action with new and exciting partnerships that will provide even more opportunities to increase our student support in the coming years. So be on the lookout for future announcements about these incredible new relationships.
The FNSNA is excited for NSNA’s biggest event of the year, its 72nd Annual Convention in Lake Buena Vista, FL. The Scholarship Sponsor and Recipient meet and greet reception will take place on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 prior to the the convention kick off - NSNA's Opening Ceremony. I have the distinct privilege of recognizing scholarship sponsors, scholars, and the FNSNA leadership development awards. Additionally, the exciting FNSNA LIVE auction, and the FNSNA Annual Convention Challenge in the House of Delegates will also take place during our time together in Florida.
Finally, after almost four years, the Forever Nursing Fun Run is back! Our sincere thanks to Sigma for exclusively sponsoring this event that promotes health and wellness within the nursing community and helps to raise much needed funds for nursing students. If you see any of the FNSNA Trustees at the convention, please do stop us to say hello!
I wish you all a wonderful season as we spring forward with the NSNA and FNSNA!

Alivia Bradford, BSN, RN
Specialty: Surgical / Oncology
UW Health
Rockford, IL
Shell Family Nursing Scholar
This scholarship helped me to focus less on my financial stressors and more on gaining the knowledge and experience needed to become the best nurse possible. Throughout my last semester of nursing school, I had the ability to take part in an internship on a medical unit that helped me grow with prioritization, time management, and other nursing skills. I was also able to maintain my grades and successfully graduate with a 4.0 GPA while also remaining involved on campus. This helped me understand how to become a leader in my cohort, and in my future as a nurse as well.
As of now, I've just passed my NCLEX and received my license. I will be starting on night shift as a Surgical/Oncology nurse at UW Health in Rockford, IL.
During my first year as a nurse, my main focus is growing comfortable with my surroundings and continuing to expand my knowledge by learning as much as possible. Since the hospital I am working for is Magnet, I would eventually love to pursue research opportunities on my unit and attend different conferences as well to aid in making an impact on the unit I work on.

This scholarship has brought me a step closer to achieving my dream as a Registered Nurse. This creates an opportunity to care for people especially the underserved community.
This scholarship not only brings about my success as a student, I believe it adds on to the value in the society; providing nurses to help mitigate the nursing shortage.
I appreciate the sponsor of this scholarship. Thank you for creating the kindness to building a better society.

I am beyond thankful to be selected as a recipient for this scholarship and am appreciative of your support for my education. I am a nursing student at Georgia Gwinnett College with a passion for helping people.
Upon graduation I hope to work with mothers and babies as a registered nurse. This has been my dream for as long as I can remember and now, I am closer than ever to fulfilling it.
As I enter my fourth and final semester of nursing school, this scholarship will reduce the financial burden of completing my degree and help me pay for tuition, allowing me to concentrate more of my energy on learning and being an active member of GGC’s nursing program.
Thank you for making this scholarship possible. It will bring me another step closer to completing my education and achieving my dreams. I hope that one day I will be able to help students achieve their dreams just as you have helped me.

As the patients needing care exceeds the number of nurses, funding is urgently needed to assist that nursing students graduate on time and enter the nursing workforce.
The shortage impacts not only the lives of nursing students nationwide, but also the quality of care patients receive. Please help us ensure that nurses will be there when you need a nurse by sponsoring a scholarship.
