Keep On Keeping On!!! 5/5/24
Luke 9:57-62 (KJV)
57 And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.
62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
The OLDER I get, the MORE AND MORE do I realize that “the past is past!!!”
MY GOD, the mistakes I made!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not only the mistakes AND sins of ancient years PAST, but daily/weekly-even minutely.
How easily do WE wallow in things unchangeable-as The Eagles sang “GET OVER IT!”
The PAST is well named-IT IS OVER!!!
Jesus taught:
Luke 9:62 (KJV)
62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
Anybody who has ever attempted to plant a garden KNOWS that one must have EYES FORWARD in order to plant a straight furrow.
I come to YOU today, NOT with any “heavy-revvy/revelation” but merely as a gentle reminder:
Philippians 3:13-14 (KJV)
13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. -
I have OFTEN preached:
IF I could have been a better husband, father, Christian, preacher, musician, singer, PERSON-I WOULD HAVE!!! WOULDA/COULDA/SHOULDA!!!
But the simple fact is, I/WE did the best we could!!!
My old mentor, Bishop Harry Mushegan once remarked that in his earlier days he COULDA bought land in Las Vegas for a dollar an acre!!!
When asked WHY he did not purchase, he simply replied, “I didn't have a dollar!!!”
WE ALL struggle with good days and bad days.
One would think-that after all my years of preaching and ministering on Wednesdays and Sundays-that after all these years I would recognize satan's attacks on these same days.
BUT, even after all these years of experience I still find my hardest days spiritually on Wednesdays and Sundays!! It seems that little Amanda never sleeps the night before and/or I wake up sick and/or depressed or...............................
Trouble and unexpected stress explode.
SMILE-Then Monday comes and I feel great???????????????????????????
I have a beloved friend who is an expert sales person. He knows that only a certain percent of buyers buy yet oftentimes as the week wears on with no sales he gets discouraged.
But all it takes is ONE sale to make the week worthwhile!!! He may fail all week to make a sale yet on the last day make that ONE SALE to provide for his family.
As a Christian and a Pastor I want to be used of God EVERY minute of every day!!
I WANT to be bathed in His Presence 24/7/365 PLUS.
I want to FEEL God and HEAR from God CONSTANTLY!!
I want to SEE results- salvations, healings, deliverances-CONSTANTLY.
How well do I remember the many years when all I could “do for the Lord” was leave Gospel Tracs at the places I frequented.
Even my present ministry is often unfulfilling as I seldom “SEE” the fruits.
Ecclesiastes 11:1 (KJV)
1 Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.
In closing, can WE even imagine the mother of Moses as she placed her only son in a basket of reeds and placed him in a swollen river. Could she ever imagine that he would even live, much less live to be God's chosen deliverer???????
