In these lectures, we will address the eternal psychosomatic dilemma, namely how physical/organic constitutions influence the psychological expression of our individuality and vice-versa. We will explore the continuum of mental health, from embodied resilience to psychological and emotional distress, including the influence of social and cultural factors in child development. This will offer a general background for an appreciation of autoimmunity.

The lectures will also consider the challenges facing collaboration between physicians and therapists, referencing some specific diagnoses, the types of medicine commonly used in treatment of psychological states and their possible impact on the therapeutic process.

We will address some of the inner challenges involved in strengthening the I-organization. We will explore what is meant by "Confronting the Threshold" at the present time and its resulting challenges for personal development.

Karine Munk Finser

James Dyson, M.D., originally trained as a medical doctor at London University and went on to study anthroposophic medicine at Emerson College, Camphill Aberdeen, and Germany. He was co-founder of Park Attwood Clinic in 1979, where he practiced for 25 years, his work embracing general medicine and psychosomatics. Later he worked as a school doctor, both in mainstream Waldorf schools and in Camphill schools and communities. Since leaving Park Attwood, James's already longstanding commitments in the field of adult education increased, addressing the areas of mental health, child development, and general medicine. He has contributed over many years to a diverse range of anthroposophic therapeutic trainings, including programs in anthroposophic psychotherapy in the UK. He is currently active as a Faculty Member of the International English Anthroposophic Doctor's Training and the AAP Counsellors' Adventure Program in the USA, of which he was a founding member and which currently offers foundations courses and professional trainings in anthroposophic psychology and psychotherapy.

James went on to complete a postgraduate professional training in Applied Psychosynthesis at the Institute of Psychosynthesis in London between 2003 and 2008 and later was also awarded a Master's degree in Psychosynthesis Psychology from Middlesex University. James's aspirations lie in extending understanding within developmental psychology and psychosomatics out of anthroposophy and deepening the practice of inter-subjective relationship.
