NEW ORLEANS – KaTrina Chantelle Griffin, a dedicated community activist and volunteer, has announced her candidacy for the Orleans Parish School Board, District 4.
Reflecting on her upbringing and values instilled by her mother—a Marine and single mother who emphasized the transformative power of education—KaTrina Chantelle Griffin expressed her commitment to ensuring every student in District 4 receives a quality education. "My mother's example of commitment, duty, and service motivates me every day to serve others," said Griffin. "She taught us that the more you knew, the better prepared you were to deal with any situation. From the time we could write, she taught us to write our goals out and have a plan to accomplish them. Each time we scratched off an accomplishment, it increased our self-confidence. That foundation, and her strong example helped me overcome many challenges in life... like becoming a single mother in college. That was not on my list, but it didn’t change my goal to get a degree. I understand the challenges students face and the importance of fostering self-confidence and determination in them. We need to impart that message to our students."
Griffin is a mother of two children, Iniko Jr. and Karlee, who attended and graduated from New Orleans Public Schools, Griffin is driven by her belief in every child's potential and aims to empower students to achieve their goals and contribute positively to their community.
Griffin's dedication to making a difference is evident through her extensive community service, including helping raise over $200,000 in endowed scholarships at Dillard University, Southern University at New Orleans and Xavier University of Louisiana, to partnering with Dillard University to create a STEM Initiative for middle school students to participating in NOPD’s community mediation program, to volunteering with the March of Dimes and the American Cancer Society. KaTrina is not done yet! She is looking forward to serving the families of District 4.
Griffin holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with a minor in Psychology, as well as a Master of Business Administration and Graduate Certification in Accounting.
Orleans Parish School Board District 4 covers the West Bank of Orleans Parish. Election day is for Tuesday, November 5, 2024, and early voting runs from October 18 to October 29, 2024.
