Hi Neighbors,
By now you should have received your ballot materials in the mail (either at the address on file for normal communications from us, or at an alternate address you had the chance to select last month) for our special assessment election regarding the proposed entrance project. At press time for this newsletter, almost 100 ballots have already been received. The official vote count will occur during our next board meeting on August 26 at 6:00pm. Should you wish to witness the votes being tallied by Pro Elections, our Inspector of Election, you can attend in-person at our office or or via Zoom. If you’d like to keep track of how many ballots have been returned on the real-time ballot counter or see other information about the proposed project, visit our election page at pro-ei.com/hoa/kent/. Thank you all for participating in this important vote!
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Julie Johnson, who has recently resigned from the KWPOA board in great standing. Julie has been an incredibly productive volunteer in Kent Woodlands: she began serving on the Architectural Committee in January 2021, and joined the board in December 2022. Julie was instrumental in making many positive changes to streamline processes, personnel, the AC rules update project, and many other topics that she spent countless hours on. Julie and her husband Pete are also cornerstone volunteers for our spring and fall food truck events, which they will continue to support with rental storage, set-up, and breakdown assistance. We couldn't hold these events without their support. Finally, Julie plans to continue her leadership and involvement in the Carbon Neutral Kent Woodlands organization. I encourage all of you to learn more about this community climate action initiative by visiting their website at www.carbonneutralkw.com. Thank you, Julie!
In related news, I'd like to welcome John Millar to the KWPOA board. John and his wife Gila Dorostkar (a Pediatric Dentist who has run her practice on South Eliseo Drive since 1997) moved to Kent Woodlands from San Francisco in 2014. While in San Francisco, he was active in the Marina Community Association, the dominant neighborhood organization in the Marina District of San Francisco. With John as President, their organization played a significant role in the restoration of the Presidio. Upon moving to Marin, he served on the KWPOA committee that researched the LPR cameras at the entrance to Kent Woodlands. Professionally, he has worked with a variety of early-stage technology and consumer products companies in various capacities, including CFO, CEO, or as a board member. Currently, he's the general manager of Gila’s dental practice, which has expanded to two locations, six doctors, and about 20 full time employees. He holds an MBA from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, an MS from Cal Poly, Pomona, and a BS from the University of Florida. We welcome John to the KWPOA board!
Finally, I'd like to thank all the Kent Woodlands residents who responded to our call to action and attended and spoke up at last month's COM meeting regarding the potential cancellation of the Marin County Sheriff's Office substation lease on their campus. As you can see from this recent article on the status of the situation following this meeting, I believe we all made a difference by getting involved: www.marinij.com/2024/07/26/college-of-marin-panel-ceases-talks-on-sheriff-substation-changes.
Sincerely,
Jeff Leh, President
