Summer Blossoms on Karmapa's Mountain

With the return of in-person programs to KTD Monastery in May, it’s been a busy summer of Dharma activity on Mount Guardian.

Signs of summer include gatherings for the annual 10-Day Teaching in July and a return of our popular Tibetan Language Intensive for two weeks in August. This year’s language class will expand to feature TWO tracks – Tibetan Reading and conversational spoken Tibetan language – and we look forward to introducing new friends to the wonders of the Tibetan language.

Meanwhile, KTD’s gardening team is tending to a surging number of trees and shrubs on our mountainside, and our facilities team has finished a project that has been many years in the making – a complete khora (circumambulation) path around the entire monastery!

We look forward to seeing you on the mountain this summer and hope you can join us to share the blessings of study and practice!

Outer Khora Path Completed!

Since the completion of the new Residence Wing at KTD in 2010, there’s been a wish by many people to create an “outer khora” path that would take devotees around both the Residence and the Gompa (temple), allowing them to circumambulate the entire complex, as is common at monasteries in Asia.

With the recent completion of KTD’s Eight Stupas and 108 Prayer Wheels at the base of the Residence, the wish for the path began to pick up enthusiasm.

Now, with the help of KTD staff, volunteers and some old-fashioned ingenuity, the final (and most challenging!) portion of the Khora Path - the portion taking pilgrims up the side of Mount Guardian’s foothill - was completed in June.

The path will still be a bit challenging for pilgrims, but the circuit is now complete. Thanks to all who helped make it a reality. May all beings benefit! More khora photos here
