2024 Annual Update

Policy staff have tracked more than 240 bills for the 2024 Regular Session of the General Assembly for their potential impact on district policies and procedures. We plan to send the Update materials at the end of May.

Employee, Coaches’, and Substitute Teacher Handbook drafts with changes from the update will be sent in the coming weeks after the Annual Update policy and procedure drafts are emailed to districts.

Nonrenewal notices

Nonrenewal of limited contracts of certified personnel shall be made no later than May 15 in compliance with the requirements of KRS 161.750.

Nonrenewal of contracts for classified personnel shall be made in compliance with the requirements of KRS 161.011, with written notice being mailed or provided to the employee by the superintendent no later than May 15.

Notice of salary

Not later than 45 days before the first student attendance day of the succeeding school year or June 15, whichever occurs earlier, the superintendent shall notify all certified personnel of the best estimate of the salary for the coming year.

Mileage rate update

If your district reimburses for mileage at the state rate, be advised that the rate per mile effective April 1 – June 30, 2024, is $0.45 cents per mile. This information can be reviewed quarterly via this link:

2024 KSBA Federal & State Law Update

Thursday, June 6

9 a.m. – noon (ET).

Virtual conference

KSBA’s Federal and State Law Update is a 3-hour virtual conference hosted each spring. This training is recommended for school board members, superintendents, assistant superintendents, board attorneys, school/district administrators, finance officers, etc. The agenda, presented by knowledgeable KSBA staff, including legal and policy experts, provide an in-depth legislative session recap, board policy and procedure updates, recent Open Meetings and Open Records decisions, case law developments and federal updates.

Participants are typically eligible for 3 hours of training credit (state-mandated board training, CLE and EILA). For board members, the training qualifies for Level IV/V elective credit in KSBA's Academy of Studies.

Registration for the Federal and State Law Update will open in early May.

2024 Summer Leadership Institute

Friday, July 19 – Saturday, July 20

For the first time, KSBA is heading west for the association’s summer conference. Join us in Bowling Green July 19-20 for the 2024 Summer Leadership Institute, a two-day conference packed with informative sessions, networking opportunities and a trade show. Board members and administrators in attendance will benefit from training designed to help them take their leadership to the next level.

Two conferences in one: SLI is also home to the 2024 Summer Meeting of the Kentucky Organization of Superintendents' Administrative Assistants (KOSAA).

Registration for the 2024 Summer Leadership Institute will open Monday, June 3.
