Beginning with crepe hair preparation and hair color mixing techniques, you will learn how to lay a beard on a provided head form. Beginning with bald cap making techniques, you will learn how to create your own latex bald cap that can be used for Life-Casting or in any Make-Up FX where a bald character is desired. A sculpture is only as good as it's paint job! In this intense 2-Day workshop, you will learn how to properly use an airbrush for hyper-realistic painting on masks, prosthetics and make-up FX, creature suits, busts, and model kits. Beginning with airbrush fundamentals, you will learn the airbrush inside and out. Working on an original GRUNT latex half-mask sculpted by J. Get ready for the Haunt and Halloween Season by learning how to properly and safely apply a generic foam-latex prosthetic! In this intense 2-day workshop, you will learn techniques on how to fit a provided generic foam-latex facial prosthetic to anyone's face.
Then you will learn how to pre-paint your prosthetic and safely apply the prosthetic to a model, using application and blending techniques used by FX masters in the industry. Next you will learn how to properly paint the prosthetic enhancing the features once applied. Finally, you will learn safe practices of properly removing the prosthetic. NOTE: Students will NOT be making their own prosthetics in this workshop. This course will consist of demonstrations and HANDS-ON learning. In this intense 2-Day workshop, you will learn the professional process and techniques on how to take a full-face (half-head) life-cast utilizing alginate and a full-head / shoulders life-cast utilizing silicone. You will learn how to work with your model/subject, and safely do the life-cast. You will then learn how to cast and clean the life-cast, as well as to prepare it for creating custom prosthetics by creating a corrected positive from the original life-cast. Students will participate by taking turns assisting the instructor during the life-casting processes of the model. Finally, students will make a life-cast of their own hand that they get to keep! Get caught up with the most innovative and newest discipline in the Make-Up FX industry! In this intense 4-day class, you will learn advanced techniques of creating 3D prosthetic transfers.
Beginning with transfer sculpting techniques, you will learn how to sculpt realistic scars, wounds, and other flat mold prosthetics for creating trauma and character make-ups used by FX masters in the industry. Then you will learn how to properly flash your sculptures and prepare them for molding in silicone. After you mold it in silicone, you learn how to make and properly use the pros-aide transfer material, fill your molds, and properly freeze-dry your transfers. You will also learn proper techniques of assembling your transfer to the transfer paper. Finally, you will learn application techniques to apply and create a 3D character make-up using all the Pros-Aide Transfer FX that you created! A maquette is a sculptor's small preliminary model or study. In the FX industry, a sculptor brings dimension to the concept art by first sculpting a maquette of the creature before sculpting it at full scale. Maquettes are also widely used in the gaming and 3D animation world where traditionally sculpted maquettes are 3D scanned into the computer for rigging the digital model for animation. In this intense 4-Day course, you will learn the professional process on how to design and sculpt your own maquette, beginning with full body character/creature concept design fundamentals. Next you will learn to proportionately build a wire armature to dynamically pose your creature. You will then learn sculpting techniques to form your maquette by applying anatomical understanding. NOTE: students will not be making molds or castings of their sculpture in this course, please see Resin Bust Making for these techniques. This course will consist of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on learning. All materials included, including a sculpting tool set for you to keep! "I first stumbled upon Kosart Atelier when I was walking around C2E2. I had been decorating cakes for about 10 years, but was looking for new ways to express myself as an artist. ABOUT THE FOUNDER / LEAD INSTRUCTOR / ARTIST J. ANTHONY KOSA R

J. Anthony Kosar is the FACE OFF Season 4 Champion, winning on March 26th, 2013 during the Season Finale in Las Vegas. FACE OFF, a reality-based competition on the Syfy Channel is the biggest competition for Make-Up FX, and Kosar won 6 of the 11 Spotlight Challenges, plus 1 of 4 Foundation Challenges, setting the record of most consecutive wins in a row and most wins by a single contestant on a single season. Of his Spotlight wins, he won the DC Superhero challenge where his winning character "The Infernal Core" appeared in the DC comic JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #16, and also won the DEFIANCE challenge where he shadowed the FX make-up crew on set in Toronto, Canada.
Kosar also recently appeared on FACE OFF: Judge Match during Season 7 where he was one of six chosen from all seasons to help the judges compete, and he was selected to be on judge Neville Page's team with Miranda Jory, and their team won. Kosar's student Dina Cimarusti won FACE OFF season 7, and Kosar returned to FACE OFF Season 8 as a mentor, coaching a team of new contestants. Now another of Kosar's students Stevie Calabrese competes on FACE OFF season 9. Kosar is an award-winning artist who specializes in Fine Art, Illustration, Sculpture, Creature Design, Make-up FX, and Product Design through his company Kosart Effects Studios, LLC. In 2007, he interned at legendary Stan Winston Studio creating effects for INDIANA JONES 4 and James Cameron's AVATAR. Kosar designs and sculpts Halloween masks for Zagone Studios, one of the leading mask manufacturers in the world. He creates special effects for theater, film, commercials, and print. Kosar teaches the art of FX through his Kosart Atelier: School for Entertainment Arts in Westmont, IL, and also teaches airbrushing at the French Pastry School in Chicago, IL. Besides FX, Kosar is an internationally awarded fine artist, illustrator, and sculptor, having been awarded by the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles, American Watercolor Society, Illinois Watercolor Society, and several others. In 2009, he was named "One to Watch" by Watercolor Artist Magazine. His work has been selected to appear in SPLASH 13: Best of Watercolor, and volumes 19, 20, & 22 of SPECTRUM: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art. He was recently honored by being selected as one of the judges for SPECTRUM 21. He designs and sculpts prototypes for toys, collectibles and medical anatomical models, illustrates for novels and comic books, curates art gallery exhibitions at his Kosart Gallery, most notably the Annual MALEFICIUM Dark Art Exhibitions, and creates fine art paintings and sculptures.
