KFOV Sets May 12 as Day to Fight Cancer at Lynn Family Stadium
New Event! Pitch In Against Cancer: Bocce and Cars for a Cause
This could be you! The Lynn Family Stadium soccer pitch will be the site of KFOV's annual bocce tournament (Cole Bollinger/Louisville City FC).

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Tuesday, March 19, 2024) — Bob Valvano, chairman of Kentuckiana Friends of V, announced today that KFOV is teaming with Lynn Family Stadium, NSRA Kentucky Safety Team and South End Power Car Club on May 12 for a dynamic new fundraising event, Pitch In Against Cancer: Bocce and Cars for a Cause.

KFOV is combining its annual bocce tournament with a mega car show hosted by NSRA Kentucky Safety Team and South End Power. Proceeds of both events will benefit KFOV, a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to raising local and national funds for cancer research while supporting cancer-related initiatives, including prevention, education and screening.

Up to 40 four-person teams will play in a bocce -- Italian lawn bowling -- tournament on the Lynn Family Stadium pitch that is home field to professional soccer clubs Louisville City FC and Racing Louisville FC. NSRA Kentucky Safety Team and South End Power Car Club will stage their show in the stadium’s Purple Lot right outside the Fan Zone with hundreds of street rods, muscle cars and classic automobiles on display.

Admission to watch the bocce and attend the car show is free with a donation to KFOV. The bocce tournament will run between 2 and 4:30 p.m. ET, with check-in starting at 1. The car show runs between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., with trophies and awards starting at 3:30.

“Bocce has been one our signature fundraisers, and by partnering with Lynn Family Stadium and two great car clubs we are able to reinvent it into what we hope becomes instant tradition on the Louisville calendar,” said Jamison Valvano, KFOV’s executive director.

“We think Pitch In Against Cancer will make for a memorable Mother’s Day celebration option, but we’re also timing it between brunch and dinner. The beauty of bocce is that it can be played by all ages and athletic abilities, and this provides a unique opportunity for participants to be on stage at one of the area’s most spectacular sporting venues. Car shows are just a heck of a lot of fun. This day to fight cancer offers two distinctive experiences for our participants and the public while raising money to fight this onerous disease that ultimately impacts everyone directly or indirectly.”

Bocce teams are $800 apiece, with payment and registration through kfov.org. Bocce questions should be directed to Jamison Valvano at (502) 533-2919 or jamie@kfov.org.

For car show questions, contact Donnie Jeffries with NSRA Kentucky Safety Team at (502) 750-1220 or Dave Rawlings with South End Power Car Club at (502) 558-6767.
