Panelists will include:

  • Dan Carpenter, Regional Engineering Manager, Sinclair Broadcast Group
  • Ron Taylor, Chief Engineer, Sinclair Broadcast Group Columbus
  • Ken McCrimmon, Chief Engineer, WCMH-TV
  • Michael Bouchard, One Media
  • Dave Folsom, Pearl TV
  • Moderator: Dave Arland, Executive Director, Indiana Broadcasters Association

This virtual session is jointly presented by the Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio Associations of Broadcasters. The session is free to IBA, KBA and OAB members, but pre-registration is requested.
BEST PLACES TO WORK IN KENTUCKY
FORCHT BROADCASTING AMONG WINNERS
The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, the Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management (KYSHRM) and ClearPath Mutual Insurance Company recently announced the 100 companies that made the 17th Annual Best Places to Work in Kentucky list.

Congratulations to Forcht Broadcasting who was named as one of the Best Places to Work in the small companies category.

Winners from across the state have been selected in three categories: small companies of 15-149 employees, medium companies of 150-499 employees and large companies consisting of more than 500 employees (categories based on number of U.S. employees, only Kentucky employees surveyed). The selection process, managed by Best Companies Group, is based on an assessment of the company’s employee policies and procedures and the results of an internal employee survey.

UPCOMING EEO WEBINAR
STAYING ON TOP OF YOUR FCC EEO OBLIGATIONS
MARCH 24, 2021 @ 3:00 PM ET
Even in this most unusual time, the FCC has continued to enforce its EEO rules, reviewing a station’s compliance both in connection with its license renewal and through periodic audits. Stations still need to engage in wide dissemination of information about job openings and engage in specified outreach activities designed to educate their communities about broadcast employment and to train employees for advancement in their broadcast careers, even if they have no job openings. Join us on March 24th when David Oxenford of the Washington DC law firm Wilkinson Barker Knauer will review all of the FCC’s obligations and how you can meet those obligations even while social distancing.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.

FREE to KBA member stations. Haven't renewed your membership, please contact Amber Rhodes at amber@kba.org.
JEFF SCHMIDT'S SALES TIP OF THE WEEK
THE MENTAL TOLL THIS IS TAKING
2020 is over, so everything is back to normal, and we are all performing at our peak and clients are back to normal.  NOT.  Are you feeling anxious, agitated, lonely, depressed, or even hostile?  As the crisis continues you may notice people getting more and more frustrated, quick to anger, or mildly depressed. I’m by no means a medical professional but I do like to watch human behavior and I think we can all see it. Kim Johnson our director of sales at the RAB sent me an article recently, that gives a medical explanation to what some may be feeling. The article is entitled: Oxytocin May Be The Key To Staying Positive in Hard Times.

Oxytocin is a neurotransmitter that acts as a hormone in the brain. The article explains that sometimes it’s called the “love molecule” because it’s produced when we have contact with others. They say it’s important because it binds us together and has shown to lead to increased happiness, lower stress, and the desire to be more kind, express charity or compassion towards others. What’s not to like right?

Here’s the problem – our Oxytocin levels increase when we have contact with others, or conversely decrease when we have no contact with others. Think, isolation, lock-down, stay-at-home orders, all the things we are doing to try and stop the spread of COVID-19 can be having a deleterious effect on your Oxytocin levels. The article lists 12 things you can do to keep or boost your Oxytocin levels. We’re going to list 5 to get you started:

  1. Look at people when they are talking – In a COVID-19 world this means using video chat whenever possible.
  2. Interact with your pet. If you’re fortunate to have a furry critter, giving and getting some affection from your pet can work wonders
  3. Take a walk – Being exposed to sunlight is a great way to get vitamin D into your system. Vitamin D helps produce Oxytocin
  4. Sing like no one is listening – crank up the radio and sing along to your favorite songs.
  5. Laugh about it – Humor breaks down barriers and can lead to connection and safety. Comedy and laughter can work wonders

Who would have ever thought a sales tip would be focused on Oxytocin and ways to feel better?  Share a laugh, share a video smile, take a walk, or do something nice for someone. These are principles that many of us were taught when we were young. If we all put some of these things into practice we can imagine the world being a better place as a result of COVID-19.
