Thank you for all you do for the Kensington & Area Chamber!

We had a great turnout for the AGM held on Feb 12th. The KACC Executive were sworn in by Mayor Rowan Caseley.
We would to welcome and introduce the new President of the Kensington & Area Chamber of Commerce!

Iain McCarvill grew up in Kensington and is a proud graduate of KISH, UPEI, UNB, and Harvard Law School. He is a lawyer who practices with Key Murray Law in Summerside.
Iain is the son of Shawn and Joanne McCarvill of Kensington. He lives in Summerside with his wife, Melissa, and their daughter.
An avid musician, Iain was a member of the ECMA nominated rock outfit, “The Meds”, and has performed across Canada from Victoria BC to St. John’s Nfld. He continues to perform regularly at community events and private functions, as well as with his seven-piece Motown cover band, “The Motones”.
Iain first became involved with the Chamber in 2009 when he served as the Summer Student following his UPEI graduation. He later served as the Chamber’s Marketing and Events Coordinator in 2011. From 2012 to 2015, he worked in marketing, event management, and sponsorship for various organizations serving the Island’s non-profit sector.
After completing his law school studies from 2015-2019 and commencing his law practice with Key Murray Law, Iain joined the Chamber Board of Directors in 2020. He is honoured to serve as President of an organization that has given him so much and looks forward to contributing to the Chamber’s post-pandemic success by continuing the important work of supporting and advocating for the local business community.

UPCOMING SESSIONS & EVENTS
The Kensington & Area Chamber will be hosting a session on Protecting Vulnerable Workers in Your Workplace, presented by the Worker's Compensation Board of PEI.

What does it mean to be a vulnerable worker? Vulnerable workers are those who have greater exposure than most to workplace injury or illness. Generally, this may be due to lack of experience, unwillingness to ask questions, language or communication barriers and the type of work or tasks being completed. In the session the definition of vulnerable workers will be explained and expanded upon, an understanding of different working conditions that increase vulnerability will be gained and a discussion on what employers can do to protect workers.

Thank you to our event partners Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce, PEI & CBDC Central PEI!

OTHER NEWS AND INFO!
Message from the Mayor
Did You Know - I attended the “Open House” hosted by the City of Summerside to gather information on the reduction of Critical Care Medical Services at the Prince County Hospital. It was not reassuring to see the reduction of services at the PCH which come on top of recent cuts to services to other hospitals throughout Prince County. I fear that if we do not gather together and keep the pressure on those in a position to do something, we will see further reduction of services or services not return to the PCH. I have written a letter to Minister McLane emphasizing the importance and necessity of the PCH to Prince County residents. I do not support the consolidation of services to the Charlottetown Hospital. I will continue to work with other Prince County Mayors to ensure that your voice is heard and do all we can to get back to regular and improved services at our hospital.
