Dear Juniors and Families,
As we’ve all been following the news and recommendations surrounding COVID-19, I’m sure many of you have questions about how the situation will impact your LINK Internships, scheduled to take place from April 27 through May 15. I’m writing to let you know that we have not made any decisions at this time about LINK, but I do hope to eliminate some of the anxiety it could be causing.
The Coronavirus pandemic will cause several confirmed internships to fall through or be postponed, and it already has. If you have heard from your confirmed mentor recently, please update me with the current status and if not, please reach out to your mentor to check in. I’m presuming that the status will fall into the following categories:
*Still on- if the business is predicting that they’ll be open for business in late April
*Postponed- if you’re still welcome to intern, but it’s likely to be later
*Cancelled- it isn’t going to happen any time soon
If you have not confirmed an internship, please do not worry. You may, of course, continue to reach out to potential mentors if making progress supports you at this time. When reaching out, I suggest that you refer to the
“how to reach out to a mentor” tools
when describing LINK and shift the conversation slightly to ask about a mentor’s general openness to having an intern once the situation calms down, and let them know that the dates may be fluid.
Ultimately, please do not allow your LINK Internship to cause you any extra pressure or stress at this time. We will consider a variety of options moving forward, which may include moving the timing of LINK for some or all juniors. No matter what, we will not allow this situation to impede your path to graduation and we’ll get it figured out together!
I continue to be online during Spring Break and I would guess I’ll be opening my calendar to individual meetings via Zoom videos starting late next week. Please don’t hesitate to email now if you have questions or updates.
Take good care,
Janae
