Juneteenth: Now Streaming on Docuseek

Essential documentary films for higher education

Honor Juneteenth with Docuseek

For Juneteenth, Docuseek has curated a selection of award-winning and pressing films on African-Americans, from pioneering leaders of the Civil Rights Movement, to racial reckonings - past and present, and the power of nonviolent protest movements for equity and access to healthcare, education, and freedom.

Films from The Docuseek Complete Collection 4th Edition, and included in The Docuseek African-American Studies Collection, are When Claude Got ShotEmmy® Winner for Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking, which dives deep into complex racial and class dynamics that serve as the catalyst for gun violence; The Five Demands, which spotlights affirmative action as we follow students’ struggle against institutional racism; The Lincoln School Story, about the heroic fight for school desegregation led by a handful of Ohio mothers and their children in 1954; and Love and Solidarity, about James Lawson, a top strategist for Martin Luther King, Jr., who passed away this month at 95. Lawson championed nonviolent direct action and confronted racial injustice in America for five decades. Rev. King called him “the leading theorist and strategist of nonviolence in the world.”

Highlights from The GOOD DOCS Complete Collection include King in Chicago, about Martin Luther King, Jr.'s understanding of the link between the Civil Rights Movement and the social injustice of poverty; American Justice On Trial: People V. Newton, which tells the forgotten story of the death penalty case that put racism on trial in 1968; Invented Before You Were Born, about a journey to share the stories of descendants and cousins linked by enslavement; and Purple Dreams, about the need for arts education in underserved communities.

Licensing options are available for one year, three years or Life of File for individual titles, The Docuseek African-American Studies Collection, The Docuseek Complete Collection 4th Edition; one year and three years for The GOOD DOCS Complete Collection.
