June 2023

Something from the commissioner...

There were 2 brilliant events in May which showed Girlguiding Northamptonshire at its best. The sun shone on both occasions. The first was the Rainbow Country Park take over. It was great to see so many Rainbows enjoying the activities provided by the park rangers and guiding volunteers. Thank you to Bronwen, Andrea and the organising team for giving the girls a fantastic opportunity. The second was the water day for Guides and Rangers, thank you Chris and team for organising the day and letting the girls try new water activities.

Unfortunately, May also saw Girlguiding HQ announce the closure of all the HQ owned training and activity centres at the end of the year, this announcement followed the previous months decision to end British Guiding overseas from 1st September. I know many of our county volunteers have previously volunteered for BGO and still have friends volunteering overseas who have been affected. Many of us will have visited several of the activity centres and have fond memories of camps, holidays, Wellies and Wrist Bands and Sparkle and Ice, along with Girlguiding Northamptonshire’s fantastic Forrester camp in 2018 at Foxlease. If you’d like to share your views about these announcements please email HQ directly, thank you.

If your unit would like to try something new don’t forget to book onto the football skills sessions in June and July. This new partnership with Northampton Football Association will let all sections give football a go ahead of the Women’s World Cup.

Guiding Star!

We had a surprise presentation to

Brownie Phoebe!

A Guiding Star award presented by one of our Deputy County Commissioners Sharon. I have never seen Phoebe so quiet, but it is well deserved and Brown Owl and the other leaders are all very proud.

Can You Help Our Deputy Sharon Make A Difference!

Sharon's greatest personal challenge to date, please read how you can support her in providing opportunities, and support for girls and young women.

How you can help

Celebrating The Coronation!

27th Fuller brownies- Kettering enjoyed a coronation picnic at Wicksteed Park on 7th May with the brownies and their families.

And all the dads were dressed up by the girls as King Charles and we even had a Queen Camilla!

We also had a crown scavenger hunt, sang the national anthem and renewed our promise to the new king.

Everyone had a brilliant time.

Julie - Unit Leader.

20th July - Summer Buffer

Well done to all our members who have been working hard and achieved their Training Brooches.

These brooches are to thank leaders who give up even more of their time to make sure they keep up to date for their volunteer role. This includes both e-learning, virtual training and face to face training - so doing your safe space, first response or simply attending our county day will give you hours towards your first brooch.
