JUNE is PRIDE MONTH
Pride month is always a pretty special time to celebrate the entire community. Did you know that 1 in 5 Americans identify as a person with a disability, while 1 in 8 to 1 in 10 identify as being part of the LBGTQIA community, including those who identify as non-binary. It really is a rainbow community! There is an organization in Wilmington that has been at the forefront of serving the community called the Frank Harr Foundation. One of their initiatives is SAGE Wilmington for the elderly population. Two of the focuses of SAGE Wilmington are Alzheimer resources in partnership with Alzheimers NC and HERO which addresses needs for the community living with HIV.
There are lots of meet ups and activities!

Have you ever wondered how a company is rated on how they support the LGBTQIA community or where they stand on a human rights issue overall? Well the Human Rights Commission or HRC keeps an ongoing list with many national and international companies ranked for you to make an informed decision. For example, Brian wanted to stress that although many companies will create "rainbow" and "pride" merchandise to cash in on the celebration of the month, they may not actually support the community throughout the rest of the year. So you can research as much as you can to be an informed consumer. Click the image for the link to HRC

Also called Emancipation Day, Freedom Day or Jubilee Day, Juneteenth is the commemoration of June 19, 1865, the day enslaved African Americans in Galveston, TX, learned that they were free and the ending of slavery in the United States. US history is incomplete unless we recognize the reality of slavery and its lasting impact on our society.
Take this day to honor and celebrate freedom for all.

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to Billy as his beloved companion Blaze crossed the rainbow bridge the last week of May. Blaze was loved by all who got to meet him, and he must surely have known how special he was to everyone. While many know the pain of saying good-bye to our furry family members, its a pain that cannot be adequately shared. Big hugs to all who are dealing with this special loss.
