Have you visited Jane’s Art Center? I think most of you know that 100% of the assets of Jane’s were donated to The Hub on Canal on March 30, 2023. It’s an incredible operation, setting the
standard for ceramics retail, and especially ceramics education in Volusia County.
The gallery, on Magnolia Street just off Canal, is primarily but not exclusively, ceramics. 2-D seems to get all the attention, but the art that surrounds you and enriches your life should include physical shapes created by an artist as well. That might be ceramics, wood, metal or something else. Come by the gallery at Jane’s and discover what piece belongs in your home or business.
You probably have walls to accommodate a painting. Should you find a magnificent piece of ceramics or metal sculpture at Jane’s that needs a pedestal, I might be able to help you with that. Speak with Gallery manager Jacob if the need arises and I’ll see what I can do for you.
A good place to start your fine ceramics art collection is with what you’ll find this month in the Feature Gallery at Jane’s. We continue with the exhibition of the amazing work of Peruvian-born Polo Ramirez. One of Polo’s vessels would be a striking addition to your art collection. His techniques are stunning and conversation starters as you proudly share how he does what he does.
As incredible as the Gallery at Jane’s is, the heart of the operation is really the studio. Over the last 5 years Jane’s has evolved into the most advanced and comprehensive studio in Volusia County. Jane’s offers instruction in hand-building, wheel throwing and sculptural techniques at all experience levels. We also offer short, introduction workshops to give you the chance to see if ceramics is for you. Our open studio hours provide students with the time outside of class to work on their technique and complete assignments. There’s something special about the camaraderie of our clay students.
Because we offer the best, our classes and workshops usually fill up quickly. We are working as fast as we can to increase both what we offer and how many classes as well. To that end, I’m pleased to announce that we have just completed a new building at Jane’s to house our electric kilns—the three we’ve long owned and the two new ones just acquired. After some rearranging, that will soon mean that we will be able to add additional classes and serve more students. Plans are in the works to go much further, but I’ll save that for a future letter!
Stop in and see us at Jane’s. Find a piece of ceramics you cannot live without. Sign up for a class or workshop and get your hands dirty. You might just be bitten by the clay bug!
Before I close I'd be remiss if I didn't wrap up the just completed Razzle Dazzle Fashion Show. You'll see several beautiful photos below. More will follow in a separate email in the days ahead. The quality of the work by our Fashionistas continues to rise—this was the best show ever. I’ve often said that this program makes a difference in these young people’s lives. I can add that their commitment, hard work, creativity
and enthusiasm inspires me as well.
Plan now to attend next year’s event, and I’d like to point out that many of the designs seen on the runway on May 19 will be on display in The Hub’s Founders Gallery in June in an exhibition
we’re calling Razzle Dazzle Redux. See them again, or for the first time.
