WORDS FROM WILL

STAY HYDRATED

As we move from spring into summer, I am reminded of the need to stay hydrated.

If my plants and flowers that need regular hydration are not well-watered when the weather warms up, they will eventually droop, dry out, and die.

In a similar way, we need to stay hydrated when it gets hot outside. Particularly if we’re outdoors gardening, walking, playing tennis or golf, or hiking. This is especially true when it comes to our spirit, our very life.

When our spirit is not well-watered, we run the risk of becoming droopy and dried-out, like the image of the valley of dry brittle bones in the book of Ezekiel, representing a lifeless nation of people.

Like those dry bones, we need the life of the Spirit flowing in us in order to live and thrive in the world.

The good news is God is an ever-flowing life-stream available to us, anytime, anyplace. By staying in regular touch with our Creator, we will stay well-watered.

This spiritual hydration can happen in a number of ways – through prayer, meditation, and reading or listening to inspirational words, but also in things we do that give us joy and purpose.

This summer, take time to do those things that renew and revive your spirit. Or take time to simply be. Whatever you do, just remember to stay connected to your Source of Life. Jesus loves you and is always here for you.

Blessings,

Will

FROM THE DEACONS

The Deacons have continued to meet bi-monthly to talk through our congregational meeting and how we can continue the momentum of growth and energy! Our May potluck was certainly a testament to our vibrant community with an amazing array of food, every seat was filled, and lots of laughter and relationships deepened. It was wonderful to behold and we felt God's light shining through that room!

We are exploring grant opportunities to help us with maintenance of the church, looking into guidance as we continue to transform, and exploring options to utilize our space better by collaborating with housing to help people in our community. It was so nice to hear from a visitor recently that she felt so welcomed by everyone and will definitely be back when she is in the area. Keep up the great work Trinity!!

FROM THE MUSIC DIRECTOR

Hello Trinity Church Community!

The month of May seemed to go out as fast as it came in. We were blessed with a wonderful presentation of talents from the Hand Bell Choir and the Low Voice Ensemble, as well as heartfelt singing and fellowship from all of you. As we enter into the Summer months, ensemble groups will be taking a break from weekly operations and will resume in the Fall.

Here is a quick look at what music things are happening at Trinity this month:

  • Song of the Month - “For All the Children” (a beautiful modern hymn with inclusive and welcoming language in honor of LGBT+ Pride Month)
  • Sung Benediction - “They’ll Know We Are Christians by Our Love” - # 494 in Chalice Hymnal (Verse 1 & Refrain only)
  • June 2nd - Special Music provided by the Adult Voice Choir
  • June 9th - Praise & Worship focused music selection in support of Youth’s Sunday
  • June 30th - 5th Sunday Hymn Sing (finally!)

I am so excited for our 5th Sunday Hymn Sing Service to return this month on June 30th. It is actually the first one of the year, believe it or not. For anyone new to this type of service, come prepared to sing! Throughout the service we will sing many different tunes from our sanctuary hymnal, as well as hear the inspiring creation story of one of those hymns. If you have any special requests for this service, please share them with me via email or in-person before Wednesday June 26th.

You might have heard that Trinity Church will be hosting Bobby Jo Valentine LIVE in Concert on June 8th at 7pm. Bobby Jo is a singer/song-writer from Oregan who has toured the nation sharing his music filled with messages of Love and Acceptance for all. I hope all of you are able to make it out for this rare event, or at least invite someone who you know would benefit from getting to attend. In the meantime, check out Bobby Jo Valentine’s biography and music on his webpage HERE

I am planning to hold a Sound System training class on June 23rd after the Coffee Hour Fellowship. This is open to anyone who wants to gain confidence with being behind a Sound Board and how it functions for our weekly services. Please let me know if you would like to attend.

The addition of new faces and voices to our worship seems to have given a spirit of new life to our community. I hope each of you can find some way to support and help the good work happening at Trinity Church. Our faith community has a superpower of LOVE. The more we come together for the purpose of sharing God’s Love, the more of a light we shine into our world.

Until We Meet Again,

Scott Arnold (he/him)

BREAKFAST FELLOWSHIP

Breakfast Fellowship in June will be on the 15th at 8:30 AM.

Since many creation stories also talk about a great flood, I want to finish the series on creation by looking at the flood story in Genesis (Genesis 6:7 – 8:19) and compare it with flood stories from other cultures.

There are many flood stories from around the world: China, India, the Middle East, Aztec, Native American, Australia, etc. I think it will be interesting to look at the similarities and differences. I’ll send out some links for reading in a couple of weeks.

Everyone is welcome to join us on Saturday, June 15 at 8:30 AM for breakfast, fellowship, and discussion.

For more information or to add yourself to the Saturday Breakfast Fellowship email list, please contact Tom at tomdan4@gmail.com

STEEPLE AND EXTERIOR MAINTENANCE UPDATE

On May 21st, the Finance and Property Committee voted to form an Exterior Restoration and Maintenance Task Force to focus on organizing our efforts around steeple maintenance, bell restoration, and other time-sensitive exterior painting and repair projects.

Trinity recently received an assessment and cost estimates for a couple of options for bell repairs from a bell specialist.

We must decide which option to pursue. Given the growing complexity and cost of this overall project, it was determined that a task force will help us focus on all aspects of project planning and execution. If you are interested in participating in the task force, please contact Pete Carlsen at trinitynorthborotreas2@gmail.com.   Thank you.

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY

We meet once a month at Trinity with knitting/crocheting hands to make shawls for our members in need of a “hug”. Blessed handmade item are delivered right to their home to warm the heart and soul. I have a simple knit pattern that can be made easily. It comes along with a card of encouraging words.

There will be no meeting in June.

The meetings will resume in September.

Have a great summer!

Our shawls and blankets have become quite popular and we need to keep on making more to comfort our members in need and the fellowship is great too!

Linda
