High School Students Share Post Graduation Plans

On June 4, 2024, the Sun Valley Class of 2024 joined their teachers, administrators, Penn-Delco School Board members, classmates, and families to celebrate the completion of their high school education. Commencement was the culmination of weeks of special events including Decision Day, College Signing Day for our athletes, Senior Awards Banquet, and clap outs at all of our elementary, middle, and high schools. Enjoy recaps of some of our senior events at our YouTube Channel or by clicking the links below. (The commencement ceremony in its entirety will be posted on YouTube as well soon.)

We are Penn-Delco Proud of our graduates who will attend more than 50 colleges, universities, or technical schools along with commitments to trade schools, labor unions, the armed forces, and the work force.

Kindergarten Students Celebrate First Full-Day Commencements

Kindergarten students from across the district, including the 47 students at Coebourn Elementary pictured above, celebrated the first graduating classes from the inaugural Penn-Delco full-day kindergarten program launched in September. The district has been thrilled with the success of the program and is excited to see how our new first grade students jump into learning in September. Congratulations to our principals, teachers, and kindergarten parents who worked so well together to make this an outstanding first year for our youngest students.

Penn-Delco Students Honored With Poetry Recognitions

Poetry written by five Penn-Delco students was chosen as winners of the 35th Annual Delaware County Poetry Contest. Over 500 entries from students in grades one through twelve from schools across the county were submitted and judged by members of the Delaware County Library System and The Mad Poets Society.

See a list of winners at our news section at pdsd.org.

Thanks for Rounding UP

Penn-Delco is again a recipient of GIANT Super Market's Feeding School Kids initiative. Thanks to GIANT’s support, we will receive nearly $7,000 to support children experiencing food scarcity within our school community. Thank you to all who rounded up at the register. Together, we are ensuring students have access to the nutrition they need to grow and fuel their education. Pictured are representatives from Aston Giant, our awesome cafeteria workers at Sun Valley, and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Eric Kuminka.

See Pennell Student Art at The Brandywine

After 2 years of planning and preparation, Pennell student art will be hung at the Brandywine Museum of Art through the end of September for Imagine BrandywineImagine Brandywine began in 2013 as a way to showcase the work of area students. Learn more about the honor and the work Mrs. Palladino and Mrs. Gordon put into making this amazing opportunity happen at the Pennell website.

First Annual Comedy Club Makes Public Speaking FUN

Kudos to the kindergarten students and their teachers at Coebourn Elementary who presented their first annual Kindergarten Comedy Club in April to an audience of third grade students. Ms. Cardwell, Ms. Lydon, and Mrs. Wiley prepared their students to perform a joke on stage, in front of the crowd, growing their presentation and communication skills. Third grade students were a fantastic audience. Congratulations to everyone who worked to create a wonderful performance and experience for all.

Northley Students Raise Funds

in Observance of Memorial Day

On Friday, May 24, Northley Middle School held their last Choose to Be Nice Walk-A-Thon fundraiser for Memorial Day. Students were encouraged to donate $1-$5 in honor of Memorial Day. Our students did an excellent job, raising $800 for Aston's American Legion Post #926 who will transfer the gift to two organizations: Tails of War and Wounded Warrior Project. Northley students walked the track in honor of all those who gave their lives protecting our country for Memorial Day. Top donation homerooms were treated to a special snack for their efforts!

High School Theater Recognized for Excellent Production

The Sun Valley High School Theater students were once again recognized for their excellent theater production with three Greater Philadelphia Cappies Awards at a special ceremony at Cardinal O'Hara High School on June 2. Their production of Catch Me If You Can, based on the Dream Works studio movie, was recognized for Best Dance Ensemble by the "Nurses", Best Actor for senior Seamus McGroary, and BEST MUSICAL!

The student journalism program nominates excellent theater for outstanding performances, costumes, and production in nearly 25 schools across the region. Sun Valley was nominated for 12 Cappies including for Musical and Song. Other nominations were for stage crew, acting, dancing, and singing.

The musical was also reviewed by the Philadelphia Independence Awards, an organization that sends adult professionals in the field to review high school musicals. Sun Valley was nominated among 30 schools in the Philadelphia area for show, acting, singing, and dancing honors. Awards were announced on Monday, May 20 during a gala event at Temple University and Seamus McGroary took home the award for Best Male Vocalist! Both Seamus (also nominated for Lead Actor) and Jermaine Howard (Lead Actor Nominee) performed at the event.

Congratulations to Director Mrs. Elizabeth Hazlett and the Sun Valley Theater group for their continued success.
