A Word From an Alumna

“Coming to the Choir School was like coming to a family reunion where you’ve never met this side of your family, but now that you've met them, you're so happy that you did. I was surrounded by people who'd never met me before, but they were so willing to accept me. I was happy to meet new people and I was happy to be in a space where I was working among people who look like me.”

Lux Aeterna: Musical Sneak Peek

"Wanting Memories" by Ysaye Barnwell

This a cappella piece, popularized by Sweet Honey in the Rock, explores the bittersweet feeling of remembering time spent with loved ones who have passed while longing to make more memories with them.

"Remember Me" by Kristen Anderson-Lopez

This tender lullaby comes from the Disney movie Coco, which is about family ties across generations and across life and death. Our performance will feature our choristers and be led by a student conductor.

Lux Aeterna by Morten Lauridsen

A multi-movement masterwork composed in 1997, where ancient and modern musical styles meet. Lauridsen pulls its text from sacred Latin writings about grief and light.

Enjoy a preview of "O Nata Lux," a movement from Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna. We recorded this performance in 2015!

End-of-Year Celebrations

Throughout the year, Choir School students were invited to take part in one of three social clubs on Thursday afternoons. Older students enjoyed Music University, which focused on college and career preparation. Younger students chose between Ladybugs and Gentlemen of Promise, which built community and life skills among peer groups. Over the last two weeks, each club hosted their own year-end celebration!

The Ladybugs enjoyed a lock-in sleepover at the Choir School complete with s'mores, PJs, and glam sessions.

The Gentlemen of Promise spent a day in Philadelphia, where they visited the African American museum and enjoyed a group dinner.

Music University had a glamorous, candlelit dinner at the Choir School. Everyone dressed to the nines and danced the night away!

Thank you to the donors, volunteers, parents and staff members who made these clubs possible. Our students have made clear that they love the community and self-confidence that grows from taking part!

Help us finish the school year strong!

Our students enjoy extraordinary experiences thanks to thoughtful donors, whose generosity makes our programs possible.

As we gear up for our annual tuition-free Summer Camp, please consider a contribution before our fiscal year ends on July 31st. Your gift will fund expenses such as certified educators to close the summer learning gap, a field trip to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, voice and dance lessons provided by industry professionals, and more!

Autumn, who starred in last summer’s musical, says: "The fact that the Choir School camp is free is a true blessing. I feel like a child’s talent and experience should not be compromised just because they don’t have the money.”

Please know that we welcome contributions of any size! Your support provides a transformative summer experience for emerging theater artists right here in our own community who would otherwise have none.
