FROM THE DIRECTOR'S DESK
"For this month’s Director’s blog, I decided to share a little bit with you of my journey of years thus far at the Air Force Marathon. On June 2, I celebrated 9 years with the organization! Now, if you’d asked me 9 years ago if I would one day be the Director, I most likely would have laughed at you; however, as I shared earlier this year, it really was a dream for me without the full belief of realization." HISTORY & HERITAGE RACE SERIES
FEATURED AIRCRAFT REVEALED: C-124 GLOBEMASTER II
The featured aircraft of the 3rd Annual History & Heritage Race Series is the C-124 Globemaster II for the upcoming July/August race!

Each registered participant will receive a finisher's medal, commemorative patch, and informational card portraying the featured aircraft. Learn more and register for your next race here.

C-124s provided heavy airlift during the Korean War and Southeast Asia War. The C-124 evolved from the earlier Douglas C-74. To facilitate cargo handling, the C-124, or "Old Shakey" as it was affectionately known, featured "clamshell" loading doors, hydraulic ramps in the nose, and an elevator under the aft fuselage. The aircraft on display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force was assigned to the 165th Tactical Airlift group of the Georgia Air National Guard following its service with the USAF. Visitors are permitted to walk in this aircraft at the museum.

The History & Heritage Race Series powered by the Air Force Marathon features historical aircraft in order to begin to highlight all of the great aircraft that have shaped the U.S. Air Force’s air power throughout history! There will be a total of six aircraft featured in 2023 with each aircraft revealed one at a time.

The History & Heritage Race Series is a virtual race series which allows participants from all over the world to participate right from their home. You have the option to choose to participate in the marathon, half marathon, 10K, or 5K.
